(posting on behalf of John Laflin as again the whole digest had been included so its well over sized, so rather than reject it I have edited it down) RE: SUFFOLK Digest, Vol 15, Issue 20 Maria Marten came from Polstead and they had lived there for generations. An ancestor of mine married a Martín in Polstead in 1600. Would think a related Martin in Gt Bealings would be remote. John Laflin Hello Brian,Are you aware of or related to Maria Marten, murdered by William Corder, known as The Red Barn Murder of Polstead. He was caught in London and tried at Bury St. Edmunds in 1828. If you would like any more information please do not hesitate to come back to me. Mick
In Bury St Edunds, there is the Moyse's Museum in which there is the full story of the dream Maria Marten's mother had in which she saw in her dream, the murder of her daughter by William Corder. In the museum, there is a plaster cast of the death mask of William Corder after his execution in Bury. Regards Bob Payne Suffolk FHS Member.
