My Grandfather O J Phillips was in the 3rd Battalion Suffolk Regiment (Special Reserves). He was in Flanders around Ypres in 1914. I know this because he earned the 1914 Star with Clasp and Rose. So he was also under fire at some time then. My question is this: "according to the Medal Roll for the 1914 Star there is a Column which is titled Date of Disembarkation which is given as 15/9/14. Is this the date he arrived in theater. I have no other source as it seems his record was among the "Burnt Records". Fortunately, I have some information from his "Certificate of Identity applicable to Special Reservists." (Army Form D.477) Any other help would be most appreciated. Regards Paul A Golder.
