Hello everyone, i would like to ask if anyone is going to the Suffolk Record Office in Bury St. Edmunds. I would ask if they would do a lookup for ANNIE FROST b: 1881 and married in Sudbury 1901. The problem i have is the ANNIE FROST i have in my tree is the daughter of JAMES FROST and SARAH MARIA STEPHENSON. There is another ANNIE FROST married to ALGERNON COE i think in 1903 this is not the ANNIE FROST i need. I would like to see which ANNIE FROST is the daughter of JAMES FROST. If the correct Annie is found could i ask if a scan of the marriage licence could be had and emailed to me. Thank you for the help. Bob
Hello Bob There are a couple of problems here. First, what you are seeking may well be rather more than a “look up”. Correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be asking for someone to find the parish register entry for the Q4 1901 marriage of Annie FROST and Charles Henry HUMPHRY – your post refers to a marriage licence, but I doubt that that is what you are looking for, as the only way you would know that the marriage was by licence (rather than the usual banns) would be if you had the certificate already. There are at least 50-odd CofE parishes in the Sudbury RD – a lot of registers to search, potentially, even if one starts from the most likely parish and works outwards. The second problem is this: “the ANNIE FROST i have in my tree is the daughter of JAMES FROST and SARAH MARIA STEPHENSON”. There is no Annie FROST with mother’s maiden name STEPHENSON, nor any marriage between a James FROST and a Sarah Maria STEPHENSON, or even a Sarah Maria, or STEPHENSON, of any kind. There is no FROST household in the census that matches. There is an Annie FROST, daughter of James and Hannah, in Assington. Based on her age in the 1891 census, and a combination of possible marriages and mothers’ maiden names in the GRO birth index, this Annie looks like this one: FROST, ANNIE mmn BUTCHER GRO Reference: 1881 D Quarter in SUDBURY Volume 04A Page 560 Assington fits with the birthplace given in the 1911 census for the Annie FROST who married Charles Henry HUMPHRY in 1901.
