    3. Good morning all I am looking for a baptism for Ann Death who married Benjamin Willis at Acton, Suffolk 15 October 1719. By a process of elimination I have excluded the following. She was NOT the daughter of Richard Death and Sarah Simpson. Richard, in his will of 1728 leaves twenty shillings to his 'daughter Ann wife of William Kidby'. She is not the daughter of Ambrose Death and Elizabeth born 1704. She would ahve been under 16 in 1719 and anyway, married John Cooe in 1724 at Acton (Cosford Database.) An Ann daughter of Ambrose and Ann was baptised at Stoke by Nayland 15 Jan 1690. This feasable as Nayland is only 9 miles from Acton, but she would have been 29 at her marriage 6 years older than her husband, and why go to Acton to marry, when it is more likely that she married in her home parish. Finding her would be useful, because I am also related to the Death family via Rebecca daughter of Richard and Sarah, who married George Faiers, and I'm sure Rebecca and Ann are related but I don't know how. Any help on this coniundrum would be much appreciated. Best wishes John

    3. Ann Death and Benjamin Willis are also my direct ancestors and I have yet to identify her parentage. Would also appreciate a solution to this. I've seen the names already mentioned appearing as her parents on Ancestry but there are some real howlers on there where assumptions have been made and when I've enquirer I get no reply regarding evidence to support them. 3. John Don't forget that at that point in time the minimum age for marriage was 12 for girls and 14 for boys - with the consent of the parents of course. They weren't legally changed to 16 until the Age at Marriage Act of 1929. 3. That's a thought John, thank you. But that particular lady got married in 1724. However, if I find another at about the same age it's worth bearing in mind. Just so that we're all on the same page, I've been through the Cosford database with a fine toothed comb and extracted all the relevant folk. My thought is that not all baptisms in Suffolk are either on the database brilliant though it is, and certainly not on the IGI or Ancestry. Probably the only way to sort it out is to have a couple of days at Bury St Edmunds and work through the registers starting with Acton and working outwards in ever increasing circles. That will keep me out of the pub for a while!!!! Thanks for the help. And if you spot a baptism for Richard Death about 1654 please let me know! I'm also descended from him via daughter Rebecca, b 1696 via her marriage to George Faiers. and thence to the Petleys of Lavenham.
