David- Thanks for that inventory record. He may have been the elder Humphrey Diver or one of several in the next generation. I haven't got them sorted out yet. The spelling of Diver appears frequently as Diner when transcdribed - the 'v' is read as an 'n'. Also 'y' was often used instead of 'i' in the "creative" spelling of that time period - spelled as it sounded to the writer. Having recently transcribed several wills of the 1600s-1700s, it is quite a challenge to read them. (for 1651) Hi Ruth I don't have access to the Gazeley registers but I see that the Bury St Edmunds branch of the Suffolk Record Office has an inventory (although apparently no will or admon) dated 1694 for a yeoman named Humphrey DYNOR of Isleham (Index of the Probate Records of the Court of the Archdeacon of Sudbury: ref. In. 9/91). David From: Ruth Dunlap <rdunlap@tsf.net> Sent: Monday, 27 December, 2010 4:59:13 I would like to confirm this marriage at Gazeley, Suffolk: 1651 (no day/month) HUMPHREY DIVER (was he from elsewhere? I hope it says he was of Isleham, Cambs. or near there) to JANE MAST (The name Diver is sometimes transcribed as Diner)
