From: Janine Fisher [mailto:janinef@aapt.net.au] Sent: Wednesday, 29 December 2010 5:06 PM To: 'suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com' Subject: Emigrants to Australia 1886 I have a newspaper cutting from 1926 as follows: FIFTY YEARS AGO EXTRACTS FROM THE "STAR OF THE EAST" OF NOVEMBER 3RD, 1886 IPSWICH The Magistrate's Room, Ipswich Town Hall presented quite a festive appearance on Tuesday evening, when The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. Grimsey), entertained the first party of intending emigrants to tea, liberally catered by Mr James Hardwick, of the Queen Street restaurant. The emigrants consisted of the following eight families; James Barber, wife and one child; R.W. Collings, wife and one child ; J.J. Fisher, wife and one child; Walter Sporle and wife; G.S. Stannard, wife and three children; David Woodrow, wife and three children; Jas. A.C. Walker, wife and two children. The party will leave Ipswich next Tuesday, proceeding to the Emigrants' Home, Blackwall, where they will stay two days, prior to embarking on the Steamship Elderslie, in which , on the 11th inst., they will start for their new home in Western Australia. My relatives are the family of James Barber. I was wondering if anyone else on the list was related to any of the other families. Also could anyone point me in the right direction to find a passenger list that would include them. Kind Regards Janine Fisher

    3. A problem area! The records appear to have not yet been digitised see http://www.sro.wa.gov.au/collection/passenger.asp which is the State Records Office page about arrivals. In general, when looking for possible web sites about Australian genealogy http://www.coraweb.com.au/ is a good starting point. Good luck. Jim
