Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! Do you have any information on Thomas and Lucy's son Thomas born in 1820? My Great, Great Grandfather Joined the British army (7th Hussars)and served for 12 Years before leaving and becoming a policeman. He Married Eliza Titley in 1844 while still in the army and served several years in Ireland and perhaps Canada. He came to Australia with his wife and two children in 1857/1858 and joined the Victoria police, being stationed at Inverleigh. They had two more children there, and returned to England in 1862, before emigrating again in 1865,to Brisbane where he joined the Queensland Police, he died in 1889 and is buried at St Lawrence Queensland. His children were, Thomas Walter, Charlotte, Alice Leigh, Edward Barwon,Maria Amelia,Emma,George, and William Henry. If this Thomas is the son of Thomas Gooch and Lucy Ibrooke my search is over. Author: bobtie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8609.13.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: G'day Graham, I initially started this reply with "Sorry mate; from our research, Thomas GOOCH and Lucy IBROOKE had 5 children - all girls! Amelia 1824, Caroline 1827, Alice 1831 (all born in Hailsham, Sussex), Harriet 1833 in Dunstable, Bedfordshire & Emma 1837 born in Walworth, Surrey." However, that was based on data from the 1841 England Census and on, so I did some further research on the FamilySearch.org site, and I found the birth record for Thomas (jnr): Thomas GOOCH birth registered with the Baptist Church, Hailsham, Suffolk on the 28 Jun 1820 - father Thomas GOOCH mother Lucy. Exactly the same data as recorded for Amelia! I'm pretty sure that this proves that Thomas GOOCH (snr) is the father to Thomas jnr and the 5 girls. And yes, Thomas GOOCH (snr) was indeed a Journeyman Brewer. Do you have the info from the 1851 Census that records your Great, Great Grandparents, Thomas and Eliza, living in 2 Martha's Buildings, Old Street, St Luke's, London? OK, so now that it has been established that they had the same parents, the only thing outstanding is to prove that Lucy's surname was indeed IBROOKE. According to FamilySearch, a marriage of a Thomas GOOCH to a Lucy did take place in St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft on the 24 Nov 1816; the only problem; is she a WALL or an IBROOKE - her surname is recorded as 'HRAH' (which I doubt is correct, but its closer to WALL than IBROOKE?). I know Pam has access to the Seventh Day Adventist Library here in Nowra, so she may be able to confirm early in the New Year. (There isn't a record in the FamilySearch site that records the birth of a Lucy WALL in Suffolk in 1795) Hope you're having a great Christmas (I'm home alone as Pam is visiting our daughter and the grandsons in Auckland) Hope to get back to you with an update soon, Bob Tyghe -------------------------------------------------- Re: Lucy IBROOKE This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I agree with you that that the 1841 census would not necessarily include Thomas Junior because he would have been 21 years old at the time and was in the Army. I have not so far been able to find any record that links a Lucy Wall to Thomas Gooch Snr and am almost convinced that the Lucy listed in the census's up until her death was Lucy Ibrooke. To reinforce this, the Marriage certificate for thomas Junior and Eliza Titley in 1844 showed he was born in Hailsham Sussex the same as the first three girls/sisters, his father was a Brewer, and Thomas junior named two of his daughters Alice and Amelia, possibly after his sisters. I would appreciate it if you could get Pam to check the lucy Wall name with the SDA Library when she comes home, just to be sure. Unfortunately one of my uncles wives burnt all the Family Photos and historical records which had been passed down, and I don't have a lot to work with. Thanks again for your help Bob.
