    3. Hi Syd, The site below does give a good explanation. A registrar once told me the rules for any bmd registration in England and Wales. The name put down should be the one the person is using at the time of the event. They should also add any names under which they used in the past (name changes, maiden names, previous marriages etc.). So in your case if she reverted to her maiden name then the marriage should have been registered in her maiden name. No proof of who you were/are was required. However this is not explained to all parties so you could get anything. Add to that I have found marriage certificates can rather fictious. I have one for a very close relative where the groom declares himself a batchelor (he was divorced), he gave the incorrect name for his father and the bride's age is incorrect. Difficult if you are searching for a second marriage.
