    3. Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found at: http://boards.RootsWeb.com/boardfaq.aspx#undefined , and the Board "home page" is at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/?o_iid=33216&o_lid=33216 . If you have any questions about the Boards or what the following is, pls contact me off-list at: mailto:SUFFOLK-admin@rootsweb.com . Thanks, Peter SUFFOLK List Admin. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Stebbing-circus family This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: stivesfamily Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/2339.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Emily! Yes, like you I only get to see this occasionally, so sorry for the delay! Well the best way to trace me in the family is to go back from Francis and Lillian. I guess Francis' father would be Edwin Francis Stebbing. His father was Francis John Stebbing, who was married twice. Your side of the family came from the second marriage, but before that Francis John eloped with Caroline Hennessey and sailed to Melbourne, Australia at the time of the gold rush. Whilst there he had a son, also called Francis Edwin (confusing!). The Stebbings built up an "intercolonial" circus in Australia, but then (so it was said) on the way home the circus was destroyed by fire and Caroline also died. The only son of their marriage started again in England, planning to sire a troupe of acrobats. He had one son, but seven daughters, so a dancing troupe rather than an acrobatic one. This was my grandma and her sisters. So that leads to me. I live in Cornwall(UK): was a performing arts/theatre lecturer for a long time, but am now a professional storyteller. So I guess performing still runs in the blood! -------------------------------------------------- looking for my uncle This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Does anyone know anything about this Hall or place as i can't seem to find anything? I haven't as yet been able to find him in the 1851 or 1841 census. Also He shows as being a Tea Dealer and was hoping to find out more about that but have struggled so far. any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't remember meeting her, but I remember meeting Aunty Buller (Georgina May) and Aunty Kitty - her sisters. This was when I was very young at Aunty Buller's house at Poulton-le-Fylde near Blackpool. My grandmother was their sister Annie (Cissie or Cis to them), who lived in Manchester, married to Fred Wood. My mother was Irene Wood who married my Dad, Richard Harandon. I have a brother, Richard, and I now live in Cornwall with my wife Pam and our three children, where I work as a freelance performance storyteller for adults and children I too was born 1959! -------------------------------------------------- Re: Stebbing-circus family This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. My great-grandmother Martha Stewart, born c.1853 in Hawick, had a brother called Archibald Stewart who married Anna Emma Elgood. She died in Edinburgh in 1943, aged 68, and the death-certificate gives her parents as Joseph Elgood, wine & spirit merchant, and Emma Blowers. The IGI records this couple's marriage at Mutford, Suffolk, in 1873. By the way, my wife has Jefferson ancestors, but on Tyneside. I would love to find more information about Susan Bentley born c.1832 in Wixoe to James and Elizabeth Bentley. She is listed in the 1851 census as niece and staying with her aunt, also Elizabeth Bentley and her son Elias, but after that I cannot find any information about her. Also, if its not too cheeky, I would love to know who James born c.1802 and his brother Wiliiam born c.1800 parents were. --------------------------------------------------
