I believe they are the parents of Susannah MANNING born C 1817 in Haughley , Suffolk. I am very excited at the prospects of Frances COBBOLD being a relative of Rev. Richard COBBOLD the author. Is there anyone who knows the family history of the COBBOLDs in Ipswich? Thank you in advance Kind regards Janine Fisher Australia

Richard COBBOLD the author. Is there anyone who knows the family > history of the COBBOLDs in Ipswich? Don't get too excited, Janine, as COBBOLD is a very common name in Suffolk! If you Google 'Cobbold Suffolk' you will get over 90,000 results. There were COBBOLD families in the Stowmarket area - and not far from Haughley - around the beginning of the 19th century so your Frances could be a part of one of those families. Apart from the Rev. Richard Cobbold many of those Suffolk born people on the list of mature years will remember with fondness drinking Cobbold beers and when I was young, a Cob Topper was the drink of the day - it was a half pint bottle of Cobnut (a sweet brown ale) and a half a pint of mild from the barrel. You will find details of Glemham Hall - the family seat of the Cobbold family - online and in the days of Lady Blanche Cobbold, she used to sit at the gate welcoming paying visitors to the family home. Supporters of Ipswich Town Football Club will also remember with affection the reputation of the Cobbolds - particularly John - when they chaired the club. John Cobbold always said that the result of the match did not matter but the quality of the wine after the match did! There is a Family Tree on http://www.cobboldfht.com/ but your Frances does not appear. So your Frances could be related to one of the notable Cobbolds or more likely one of the other families of lesser means. There are a number of Cobbold researchers so you may find someone with a common interest. Have a look at http://www.terryaspinall.com/suffolk-surname-list/suff_co.html which lists a number of researchers but please bear in mind that this resource has not been updated for over 2 years so the email addresses may not work. Good luck Brian

    3. Thank you Brian I love all the history you add into the messages. I am planning a trip to Ipswich next year, after searching my family from there for the past 20 years. I hope they are still serving Cob Toppers, I can't wait to get there. Kind Regards Janine -----Original Message----- From: suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Brian Lummis Sent: Sunday, 31 October 2010 4:16 AM To: suffolk@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SFK-UK] FW: Frances COBBOLD Marriage 1817 Janine Fisher <janinef@aapt.net.au> wrote: > I would like to ask for help with information on the marriage of Frances > COBBOLD to Robert MANNING, 27 May 1817, Suffolk, England. > I believe they are the parents of Susannah MANNING born C 1817 in Haughley > , Suffolk. > I am very excited at the prospects of Frances COBBOLD being a relative of > Rev.
