Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found at: http://boards.RootsWeb.com/boardfaq.aspx#undefined , and the Board "home page" is at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/?o_iid=33216&o_lid=33216 . I think that, for some reason, what I am looking for is not included in Free Reg. I am fairly sure the couple married in Lowestoft as, in Google Books, I found a book called "The parish registers of Lowestoft, Suffolk" by Frederick Arthur Crisp, 1904. It only shows snippet views but one is for John, son of John and Ann IBROOKE, born Aug 3, nee HURREN (no date visible but probably 1810). I am assuming John and Ann married in Lowestoft. I can't find the marriage or the baptism of son John IBROOKE in any year in Lowestoft on Free Reg. However, I have found the record of John's baptism in 1810 in the IGIs, although I cannot find the record of the marriage of his parents. I believe Ann HURREN (his mother) is Mary Ann HURREN (or HEARN) as she gave her name as Ann for other baptisms, according to the IGIs. I was just thinking I might not need to order films from the LDS if you had access to the registers or at least transcriptions of them. Author: Robesure Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8622.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As you have posted this on the Suffolk board, do you have evidence that he was born in Suffolk? If so there was only one birth of a William Hunt in Suffolk in 1899, but he was a William Levi Hunt, in the Stow district, December quarter, volume 4a, page 876. If we look at England as a whole then there were about 80 William Hunt registrations of which none had a second name Harold. It was not unusual however for second names to be added or changed later. As you seem a little uncertain about the date of birth if we look 2 years either side then there were two William Harolds registered in 1898, Bedford and Islington, London and one in 1902, Alvestoke, Hampshire. There were also a few William Harry Hunts reg. during this time. Where did his wedding take place, was it in England? As I cannot see any trace. If this took place in Australia does the marriage certificate or possibly his death certificate give more information, including details of his parents. I suggest that you look at these before searching in England. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Hunt surname This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I live in Ontario, Canada. In 1966 a dear friend of my mother's passed away. His name was Art Cooper, and he lived in Berkeley, Ontario. My mother contacted his sister, Kathleen Martin, by letter, who lived on Sudbury Rd, Acton, Sudbury, Suffolk. They wrote to each other, until my mom passed away in 1993. I, then took over the letter writing and Kathleen and I exchanged letters for quite some time. The last letter I sent to her around 2000, 2001 was unanswered. As the years have passed I have often thought of the Martins. Can anyone tell me about Kathleen and Victor these past few years. Also, if they have passed away, could someone possibly find and send me copies of their obituaries. Many thanks, Colleen Martin, Owen Sound, Ontario. None of my ancestors (direct line) were born in Australia, my father was the first of the line to emigrate in 1965. So far I believe i have mnaged to trace all my ancestors back to approx 1760 odd and they all appear to come from Suffolk in UK. Various offshoots from brothers and sisters that are connected to my direct line have emigrated to Canada New Zealand and Australia but nothing in the time frame you ave mentioned. So sorry we can't be of mutual assistance.
