Hi, I wonder if someone would be kind enough to look-up someone for me? His name was Duleep Singh (the last Maharajah of the Punjab) and I believe he was residing in Elvenden/Elvendon, Suffolk at the time of the 1871 and 1881 census'. Hi Rebecca & Listers ! I see that you have already been sent the 1871 & 1881 Census information that you require for your son's project. I think you will find that the correct spelling of the place is Elveden ? - although I notice that the 1881 Census that Nivard has sent you manages to spell it in two different ways on successive lines ! Elveden Hall is a very large estate right beside the A11 main road and just about a mile before you cross the boundary into Norfolk. Normally access to the estate is rather restricted but I am lucky enough to have visited it as part of a group on a bus tour, and it is very impressive with beautiful grounds. The very next place on the A11 is the town of Thetford in Norfolk, and if there is any way that you can get there (?) it has a life-size statue of Duleep Singh on horseback which is well worth seeing ! You may even be able to find a picture of it if you carry out a 'Google' search ? Best Wishes !
