Dear List I have recently started searching my family history after a long break of nearly ten years. Alas!! The bricks are all still there in the wall. I would like to ask some advice about the family listed below. I have them on the 1871 England Census and the 1891 England Census but cannot find them anywhere for the 1881 England Census. Here are the details; 1871 England Census, Ipswich, Suffolk, St Margaret, 55 Tower Terrace James Barber Head Carpenter and Joiner Ipswich 29 Frances Barber Wife Claydon 26 Stephen Barber Son Scholar Ipswich 7 James Barber Son Ipswich 5 Henry Barber Son Ipswich 3 Frances Barber Dau Ipswich 8 months And then 1891 England Census, Ipswich, Ipswich Eastern, Ridge Cottage, 4 Rosehill Road James Barber Head Carpenter and Builder Ipswich 49 Frances Barber Wife Claydon 46 Henry Barber Son Gardener Ipswich 23 Elizabeth Barber Son Dressmaker " 18 Francis Barber Son Scholar " 13 Charles Barber Son " " 10 Edward Barber Son " " 8 Christine Barber Dau " " 6 Frederick Barber Son " 3 Phillip Barber Son " 7/12 I realise that the younger children won't be on the 1881 Census but I have searched for the others with no avail. Could they have been quarantined, imprisoned or even sent to Coventry J ? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help. Kind Regards Janine Fisher Australia
Hi, I found what looked likely to be my missing family listed in the workhouse. The family was listed by initals only but when I obtained the birth certificate of the youngest child it said that he was born in Wickham Market Workhouse in 1861 exactly the time span that I could not trace them. So it might be worth looking to see if a matching set of initals, and if your lucky occupations beside the initals, give any help.
