Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found at: http://boards.RootsWeb.com/boardfaq.aspx#undefined , and the Board "home page" is at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/?o_iid=33216&o_lid=33216 . If you have any questions about the Boards or what the following is, pls contact me off-list at: mailto:SUFFOLK-admin@rootsweb.com . Thanks, Peter SUFFOLK List Admin. -------------------------------------------------- Re: help needed This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. If you look at the 1871 census, you can see Eliza, with her husband WILLIAM, and the two eldest children, they are named as RANDALL. Then search for a death for William Randall, and you will see that there is one who fits exactly, with Eliza's husband. Deaths Mar 1878 Randall William 33 Ipswich 4a 412 Then, check the 1881 census, for the family you found of Rundhall. There are a number of other children, but it is impossible for Florence to be the daughter of William Randall, because she was born 2 years after his death. It may be that Eliza never married Alfred Chinnery, but she may have told her daughter the name of her real father. I hope you understand this. -------------------------------------------------- Re: help needed This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. The sticky part i have is the mention of alfred chinnery on florence marraige cert he was deceased at the time. I know they originated in bosmere but have no details of any census with alfred and eliza with the correct children on. of course you mentioned the possibilty that she never married alfred and that she told florence of him. this had never accured to me always good to have a fresh set of eyes on a problem many thanks for your help -------------------------------------------------- Re: James Goodrich m Elizabeth Hogger This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. On this census, there were no relationships listed, so you have to guess at what relation they were to each other. IN ADDITION, on this census, people were told to round down their ages to the nearest five years, so Harriet Elizabeth and Eliza, appear to be two sisters, and, because Eliza is listed after Harriet, you might safely assume that she was younger. As the census was in 1841, an age of 20, could mean that either of these girls could be between 24 and 20. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Doris Fulcher born 1916 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. It is for discussing all the "child migrants" which were either shipped out or flown out of the United Kingdom and Ireland. This "child migrant scheme" went on from 1860 to 1970 - about 100 years. There might have been 150,000 unwanted or needy children who were sent out to the Colonies. Over 100,000 of them were shipped to Canada between 1860 and 1940. From about 1900 to 1970, thousands more were sent to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, South Africa, Malta, etc. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/UK/CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK.html My LEWIS / CORKILL great-grandparents were some of them. They were born in ~1860 in Liverpool, Lancashire. They and Mary's siblings were "shipped to Canada" in 1874, and all went to different families in Nova Scotia. In Canada, the children were known as "British Home Children." When I found out, I joined the BHC List, and I've been active on that List for 7 yrs. There is important information about the "child migrant scheme" in the archives of that List. Author: Robesure Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8610.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The birth of Nellie M Denny was registered in Ipswich, September Quarter 1914, Volume 4a, Page 1073, her mother's maiden name was Catchpole. In order to get full details you need to purchase a copy of the certificate which you can do online at a cost of 9.25 from the General Register office at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ If her parents were married in Ipswich the only Denny/Catchpole marriage that I can see was in March 1900 between a Jonathan Catchpole and a Maria Christina Catchpole. In 1901 this couple were living at No1 Court A, Mount Street, in the St Peters parish of Ipswich. Jonathan was 23 a Bricklayers Labourer, Maria also 23, they had children Gracie 2 and Stanley 11 months. All the family were born in Ipswich. Nellie's birth certificate will confirm if these are her parents. You can also get information on the 1911 census for the family by going to http://www.1911census.co.uk/ but you will have to purchase credits to see the full details. If you have confirmation that these are Nellie's parents then a copy of their marriage certificate will give you their father's names and occupations which will enable us to identify them on earlier census. It may be possible to find them without, but there is always a doubt that you have the correct family unless you confirm each step in the process by purchase of certificates. -------------------------------------------------- Error This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
