    3. Might I also suggest using Google Streetmap which now has Suffolk in it. You might be able to work out the location from the local pub or church etc. Good hunting Ian -----Original Message----- From: suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Brian Lummis Sent: 24 July 2010 15:44 To: suffolk@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SFK-UK] STIFF family in LANGHAM shirley bond <sj.bond@onyxnet.co.uk> wrote: > I am visiting Suffolk in two weeks time and wondered if someone who > lives in or around LANGHAM can help me. > The 1891 census shows my great grandfather GREGORY STIFF living in No 40 > HUNSTON ROAD, LANGHAM. Shirley I don't want to dissappoint you but if you look at the census again the property is unnumbered and 40 is the number in the enumerator's schedule. The only thing to guide you is that there were 8 dwellings in Hunston Road which appear to be after the Hall and before you get to Hunston and Gregory Stiff was living in the 6th dwelling. It could be that two families were living in one house although the enumerators marks do not seem to indicate this. However the properties may have been altered or demolished in the past 120 years so trying to find the exact one could be difficult unless there is a local historian who has details that have been passed down. I would guess that the properties in Hunston Road belonged to the Hall so there may be some estate records that could help. You could try to find an old map of the area for around 1891 which might show what houses were in Hunston Road and then try to work out where your ancestor lived but that would only be guesswork.
