Hi, I am trying to help a friend trace an article in a newspaper concerning her father who at the young age of 5 years old was put on the passenger ship 'Moreton Bay' to Australia in 1932. I have found his arrival date in Australia as 26/11/1932 and I also know that the ship departed sometime in October 1932. Apparently he made headline news as he was the youngest unaccompanied child to make the month long journey (except for his brother)!! I have found an article that may be of use on the front page of the Guardian on 4/10/1932, but am unable to access the article. I was wondering if someone has access and might be able to help me please. Many thanks for your time Rebecca

Hi Rebecca Like many newspapers of the time, the Guardian on 4/10/1932 had a front page made up entirely of ads. One of these ads reads as follows: SHIPPING Australia in 29 Days One Class Only Calling at Malta, Port Said and Colombo Largs Bay 14,184 tons, Southampton Oct. 12 Moreton Bay 14,145 tons, Southampton Oct. 25 Hobsons Bay 14,130 tons, Southampton Nov. 23 Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line Apply 2, Australia House, Strand, WC2, 34 Leadenhall Street, EC3 or local booking agents. That's it! I hope this helps your researches Dudley ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Chapman" <rebecca@eopeo.com> To: <SUFFOLK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2010 8:02 AM Subject: [SFK-UK] Newspaper look-up please > Hi, > > > > I am trying to help a friend trace an article in a newspaper concerning > her > father who at the young age of 5 years old was put on the passenger ship > 'Moreton Bay' to Australia in 1932.
