Thomas Pretty appears in the hearth taxes of 1673 & 1674 in Eye. He appears to have been poor as he was certified. There was at least one other Thomas Pretty around at that time in Eye. At the same location and date was a John Pretty. There were other Prettys around at that time. I have a marriage of a Margaret Pretty to John Davy in Eye in 1705 and another of a Margaret Pretty to Francis Godfrey in Wingfield in 1696. In both cases I have seen transcripts of the parish records which do not record where the bride and groom were from, or their marital status. I am hoping that the original registers would have contained this information. The Margaret Pretty in question was born in 1676 in Eye to Thomas and Mary Pretty. Thanks, Sylvia Tupper
