    2. P.S. & C.A. Wyant
    3. Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=faq&r=rw <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=faq&r=rw>;; and the Board "home page" is at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw>;; If you have any questions about the Boards or what the following is, pls contact me off-list at: SUFFOLK-admin@rootsweb.com <mailto: SUFFOLK-admin@rootsweb.com> Thanks, Peter SUFFOLK List Admin. -------------------------------------------------- Re: George Olley brn:1797 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. You don't know how much of those stories are fiction. Author: jonwarrn Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8581.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Can't see anything in Suffolk on the internet, there is a marriage in Norfolk, 13 May 1799 St John the Baptist, Garboldisham John Fulcher and Sarah Wharby Some further details are given - marital status, witnesses There are then five baptisms in Garboldisham, 1799 -1810 to this couple. They often gave the mother's maiden name in Norfolk registers, she is confirmed as "late Sarah Wharby, spinster" This could possibly be them, Garboldisham is very close to Hinderclay. As well as transcriptions online, you can also see the actual images of the Garboldisham registers on the Familysearch site. There's another marriage in Cockley Cley, Norfolk, 22 December 1799 - John Fulcher and Sarah Sexton, but this further away. Kind regards John -------------------------------------------------- Re: Samuel Catchpole This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Gobbitt Surnames: Catchpole, Fairweather, Smith Classification: birth Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8580.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Margaret Transcripts of Framlingham's parish registers have been published on CD by the Suffolk Family History Society (http://www.suffolkfhs.co.uk/osc/product_info.php?products_id=81&osCsid=cca24ea2d7d4b5708cc5fff9b96cb5f1). They include the baptism of Samuel, son of John and Mary Catchpole, on 6 Feb. 1763. (Not 1761, as given in reply to an Aldringham look-up request on this board in 2006; Samuel's brother John was baptized on 29 March 1761.) If Samuel was a widower when he married Ann Smith at Aldringham in 1790, his first wife may have been Sarah Fairweather (m. Brandeston 3 Nov. 1783). I did find some Hunters in the Jefferson County around her timeline. But do not know how they are related. The only thing that makes me believe her name was Ann and not Mary was her cemetery stone. Though I have found during that era nick names were popular and used on public documents. -------------------------------------------------- Re: George Olley brn:1797 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I once thought I had the correct George until I noticed that he was still in England after our George was naturalized in the US. I believe that George had a wife named Mary, which I am thinking is where the confusion is. -------------------------------------------------- Re: George Olley brn:1797 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. If Hannah's father was John Thomas DUNNETT,as you say, then how could her maiden name, that is, her surname before she married, be OSLER? I think I have found the answer - John Thomas DUNNETT was Hannah's husband, not her father. According to the FreeBMD site, www.freebmd.org.uk they were married in the December quarter of 1858, in the Downham registration district. The birth of a Hannah Elizabeth DUNNETT was registered in the September quarter of 1839, in the Downham registration district. The Downham registration district includes the village of Southery, so I think Hannah's birth place was Southery, Norfolkn not "hackford norfolk, southery"? "There are two villages in Norfolk called Hackford and Southery, but they are over 27 miles apart.) I hope that helps. I will now be able to go into the LDS record search and trace the family tree back even further. The street Sarah was living in in the 1861 census was Lower St. not Further St. Cheers Gavin --------------------------------------------------
