    3. Hi again There are two William MESSENGER births registered in 1858 in Plomesgate Plomesgate is the registration district, it covers many places see :- http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/plomesgate.html Any birth that occurred in the list of places that Plomesgate covers *should* be registered there, including Marlesford To explain my logic in suggesting the later birth reg is yours These are the two Marlesford baptisms WILLIAM MESSENGER Christening: 16 APR 1858 Marlesford, Suffolk, England Father: JAMES MESSENGER Mother: MARY C062691 1813 - 1876 0919624 Film 883882 Film WILLIAM MESSENGER Christening: 26 SEP 1858 Marlesford, Suffolk, England Father: CHARLES MESSENGER Mother: MARY C062691 1813 - 1876 0919624 Film 883882 Film And the two birth registrations Births Jun 1858 Messenger William Plomesgate 4a 602 Births Sep 1858 Messenger William Plomesgate 4a 563 Most baptisms occurred soon after birth and the two baptisms fit into the periods in which the birth would be registered So the later baptism is most likely to be the later birth registered If the register was transcribed to the IGI by the same person you could understand why they still had a Mary in their mind when they got to the second William being baptized (although there is also an Alice with parents Charles & Mary) In 1861 James & Marys William is enumerated as 3 years old, Charles & Eliza's as 2 years old The birth cert will give you the mothers maiden name and often an address (which may be the same as the 1861 address Personally I would not be surprised to find both Williams were born in Marlesford and there was a family relationship between James and Charles (such as brothers, both sons of Thomas and Elizabeth) The most likely marriages are Marriages Dec 1845 JAYE Mary Plomesgate 12 792 MESSENGER James Plomesgate 12 792 Marriages Mar 1853 CABLE Eliza Plomesgate 4a 809 MESSENGER Charles Plomesgate 4a 809 With family history there is always room for errors to creep in so keep your mind open to them :-) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Ken, > > Thank you for your reply. > I did see the birth notice at Plomsgate. 3. Hi Nivard. Thanks once again for you help and suggestions. James and Charles were brothers sons of Thomas and Elizabeth. Therewere a lot of Messenger families living in Marlesford. I am going to send for the birth certificate for William born September 1858 Son of Charles and see what it comes up with.Hopefully no new surprises. Thank you once again Regards Liz ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nivard Ovington" <ovington1@sky.com> To: <suffolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 27, 2010 11:57 PM Subject: Re: [SFK-UK] William Messenger son of Charles > Hi again > > There are two William MESSENGER births registered in 1858 in Plomesgate > > Plomesgate is the registration district, it covers many places see :- > http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/plomesgate.html > > Any birth that occurred in the list of places that Plomesgate covers > *should* be registered there, including Marlesford > > To explain my logic in suggesting the later birth reg is yours > > These are the two Marlesford baptisms > > WILLIAM MESSENGER > Christening: > 16 APR 1858 Marlesford, Suffolk, England > Father: JAMES MESSENGER > Mother: MARY > C062691 1813 - 1876 0919624 Film 883882 Film > > WILLIAM MESSENGER > Christening: > 26 SEP 1858 Marlesford, Suffolk, England > Father: CHARLES MESSENGER > Mother: MARY > C062691 1813 - 1876 0919624 Film 883882 Film > > And the two birth registrations > > Births Jun 1858 > Messenger William Plomesgate 4a 602 > > Births Sep 1858 > Messenger William Plomesgate 4a 563 > > Most baptisms occurred soon after birth and the two baptisms fit into the > periods in which the birth would be registered > > So the later baptism is most likely to be the later birth registered > > If the register was transcribed to the IGI by the same person you could > understand why they still had a Mary in their mind when they got to the > second William being baptized (although there is also an Alice with > parents > Charles & Mary) > > In 1861 James & Marys William is enumerated as 3 years old, Charles & > Eliza's as 2 years old > > The birth cert will give you the mothers maiden name and often an address > (which may be the same as the 1861 address > > Personally I would not be surprised to find both Williams were born in > Marlesford and there was a family relationship between James and Charles > (such as brothers, both sons of Thomas and Elizabeth) > > The most likely marriages are > > Marriages Dec 1845 > JAYE Mary Plomesgate 12 792 > MESSENGER James Plomesgate 12 792 > > Marriages Mar 1853 > CABLE Eliza Plomesgate 4a 809 > MESSENGER Charles Plomesgate 4a 809 > > With family history there is always room for errors to creep in so keep > your > mind open to them :-) > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > > >> Hi Ken, >> >> Thank you for your reply. >> I did see the birth notice at Plomsgate.
