Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found at: http://boards.RootsWeb.com/boardfaq.aspx#undefined , and the Board "home page" is at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/?o_iid=33216&o_lid=33216 . If you have any questions about the Boards or what the following is, pls contact me off-list at: mailto:SUFFOLK-admin@rootsweb.com . Thanks, Peter SUFFOLK List Admin. -------------------------------------------------- Re: parish records lookups This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I am looking for information on Edward Punt, born about 1670, married to Tabitha Blake, died 1738. It seems he resided in Yaxley,Suffolk, England. I'd like to find out who his parents were and possibly if anyone shares him as a relative. Thanks so much. Author: Jane_Elderfield Surnames: CLARK or CLARKE, JEWERS or JOWERS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8650/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A member-submitted entry on the IGI names Jonas CLARK b. abt 1738, married Sarah ----- abt. 1761, Cockfield, Suffolk. In the NBI, a Jonas CLARK, aged 64, was buried 24 Oct. 1794 in Cockfield. He was therefore born about 1730. I am seeking the christenings of a Jonas CLARKE, his brother Herbert, and his sister Elizabeth, all probably around the 1730s, place unknown. Herbert CLARKE's will names an Elizabeth JOWERS or JEWERS of Bury St. Edmunds--which is only 5 miles from Cockfield. She may be a relative. Does anyone have any knowledge of CLARK or CLARKE families of Cockfield or Bury St. Edmunds in the 1700s-1800s? She was born November 14, 1856 in Back Hamlet, St. Clement, Ipswich. Father, James Chaplin's occupation is Seaman Merchant Service Mother is Hannah Chaplin nee Wright. In one of my earlier posts I said that James was Chaplain of a Merchant Ship. It should have said Captain. So, I'm still not sure where the name Sinclair comes from. Her Aunt Sarah Hugill that she lived with in 1871 census was a Sinclair but her Aunt Frances Bond that she was living with in 1861 was a Wright. Need to do some more searching. There were soooo many Chaplins in Ipswich. -------------------------------------------------- Re: henry alfred potter crowfield This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I have been looking to see if I can find anything and haven't come up with very much. I have found a Hannah CHAPMAN born c1826 Ipswich in Kent in 1861, the right area where the others are. Census says Hannah a widow. RG9; Piece: 531; Folio: 108; Page: 30 = Minster in Sheppey. Going back to 1851 theres a Hannah Wright of the right age with family in St. Clements area of Ipswich which might be the 1861 lady. HO107; Piece: 1800; Folio: 125; Page: 10; Theres a Chaplin/Wright marriage in 1841 in Ipswich, but think this must be too early, really would have thought there would have been other children before Mary, but of course I may be entirely wrong. You may have to think about going sideways and perhaps it might be worth getting the Hugill/Sinclair marriage cert to see who Sarahs father was, to see if it might lead somewhere. I can find no trace of Sarah before her marriage even though she says she was born in Ipswich. The elusive James Chaplin could have come from just about anywhere, so not very helpful on my part I'm afraid. --------------------------------------------------
