Hi all, I find the updates in ancestry remarkably useful. They can fix incorrect calculations of birthdate, spelling of birthplace (often quite garbled), give variations of a first or last name (I have an Alphareeta who became Alfreda in later decades). The maiden names when added can help trace back generations. I can't see how entering a maiden name "confuses the picture" as it doesn't change the info in the census at all. Carol B.
