I have not succeeded in finding a will I believe should exist. I've looked at a number of indexes but do not know if I've looked at all of them. Edmond Cross(e) b. abt 1620 d. 14 Oct 1665 Bredfield (of Woodbridge up until 1663) husband of Sarah who survived him, and father of Peter, Edmond, Elizabeth, John, Mary Daniel, Sarah, and Susannah. Daniel preceded his father in death. Sarah "Sr." d. 13 Dec 1690 and might have left a will, I do not know. their sons Peter and Edmond did leave wills and I have those. they're in the PCC index. I believe Edmond was a Grocer. I know Peter and Edmond were. all the children are underage when Edmond died. Cornelia

Cornelia, you haven't said which indexes you've looked at, apart from the PCC. You may be aware of this, but in most areas there are four possible places a will might be: PCC - for the best off, officially for people who had land in more than one bishop's diocese but used in general by the better off The diocese records - in this case it's the diocese of Norwich - so Norfolk Record Office have those - and there's an online catalogue - officially for people who had land in more than one archdeaconry within a diocese, but not much used in south Suffolk (or at least not in Melford, which is where I know about) The archdeaconry records - so Suffolk Record Office have those - not online. There are printed indexes to some but not all, I know what there is for west Suffolk but not the eastern area you need, but I am sure someone else on here does. The fourth place is ...not surviving because never taken for probate. I am absolutely convinced that there were plenty of people who made wills but then by the time they died everything was sorted out and no family arguments and the execs decided to save money and not bother with probate ...
