    1. [SFK-UK] Emms Family Research in Suffolk
    2. John Emms
    3. Dear Fellow list members, Many thanks to all those who replied with support and advice. cheers. John Emms RE: James Emms (my 3x Great grand father) born 1796 in 'Barton?' Suffolk I asked the researcher in Bury St Edmands archives Library to search for James Emms but only came up with a marriage of William Emms and Mary Deeks in Timworth, which backs on to Great Barton in 1787. I did a search on the IGI's and discovered a James Eames C. 9/9/1792 in Sudbury IGI Batch No. C026529. The parents were William Eames (note name change) and Mary Deeks Eames . I thought this was too much of a coincidence and fingers crossed are the persons I'm looking for. The 1841 census ref HO 107/701/6 for the Borough of Tower Hamlets Limehouse informs that he was age 45 and had a profession of Lockeeper. It also indicates that the family moved to London between 1821 and 1826. In the 1851 census ref H.O107 1554 for Borough ofTower Hamlets St. Annes, Limehouse, it informs that he was born in Barton? Suffolk and had a profession of Dealer in Coal and Wood.

    3. Thanks Sid. Yes, she was a widow at time of her death her married name was Jane HUDSON. Thanks you for that clarification. It certainly confirms her husband's Shottisham connection as I have a Shottisham birth for him. Doesn't help knock down her brick wall however. Oh dear!! 3. A Coroner's report on my 3xgreat grandmother's sudden death in Kirton states that she was given half a crown per week by the Parish of Shottisham to which she belonged. She had lived in Kirton for many years and her children were born there therefore I am puzzled at the Shottisham connection. Does this mean that she was born in Shottisham and therefore responsible to the Shottisham parish? If anyone has the Shottisham parish registers I would be very grateful if a Baptism could be found for a Jane Boze, Bowes, Bows, Boyes (or anything remotely similar) in the 1770 -1780 year range. Grasping at straws here I think! Many thanks Marj.

Thanks again Honor What a shame there is no age at burial it may have helped to find where he did come from which does not appear to be Gt Wilbraham No sign of the burial for Miss BROWNING who died in 1802 which is odd but suspect she must be buried somewhere other than with her father and is not available as yet Its the young ladies first name that concerns me (or lack of it) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Burials... > Great Wilbraham > 1803 Nov 15 BROWNING Thomas. > > > > Honor

    3. Hi David Hugely appreciated I can assure you I had already tried the Thompson Gale papers but did not find anything for Thomas or the eldest daughter, I did find the marriage some time ago in another publication but you did far better than I did I tried to replicate the search but again found nothing but after a little perseverance I found it, the OCR does not seem to like Wilbraham very much <g> I do now have a slight problem, in that the eldest daughter baptised 1777 is my g.g.g.grandmother Dorothy ! The others are Sarah baptised Ousden 1779 and a probable Harriet in 1781, no others are known of as yet I hope there is another older daughter or I may have a large problem ! Very much appreciate your help Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard > > These three items from the Bury and Norwich Post may be of interest: > > 1802 April 28 (Wednesday) > Cambridge, April 26. > ... > Yesterday se'nnight died, in the 25th year of her age, deeply regretted, > Miss BROWNING, eldest daughter of Mr. Thomas BROWNING, farmer, of > Wilbraham. > > 1803 Nov. 23 (Wednesday) > Cambridge, Nov. 21. > ... > Thursday se'nnight died, after only three days illness, Mr. Thomas > BROWNING, a respectable farmer at Wilbraham, in this county. > > 1885 July 28 (Tuesday) page 6 > GLIMPSES OF THE PAST, No. 61. >>From the Files of the Bury Post, > January 10, ... 1798 ... > A few days since Edward HAYLOCK, Esq. of West Wratting, was married to > Miss D. 3. Hi Bob, I'm sure there is more than one burial ground in Bury St Edmunds. I once took part in a tour of the various churches of all denominations, Protestant, Catholic, Methodist, Quaker etc. and each has a burial ground. There is a town cemetery in off Kings Road Bury St Edmunds. Do you want to send me the details off list and I can see if it is easy to find the grave and photograph it for you. I usually go at least once a month to Bury St Edmunds so it will be possible to do if we can locate the burial. kind regards Martin Clowes ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Stephenson" <rstephenson3@cogeco.ca> To: <suffolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2010 3:21 PM Subject: [SFK-UK] Headstone photo > > Good morning everyone, i do not know if there is more than one cemetary in > Bury St. Edmunds but i would like to ask if there is anyone available who > would take a photo of a headstone for me.
