    3. Hi Phil and Brian, In my (much neglected) records I have a Lydia who was born / christened in Stowupland 15 Feb 1789. Her parents were Samuel GODBOLD and Elizabeth SCOTCHMERE of Mickfield. Lydia has siblings Elizabeth 1785, Sarah 1787, Mary (Ann) 1791, Samuel 1793 and another Elizabeth (but one could have been Eliza, or the 1st one died, but I don't have a death date) born / christened 1796. From the names you have for your OSBORNEs it looks likely this is the Lydia you are looking for. I don't have Lydia married to anyone, as yet ;) I have spent quite a while trying to change to Legacy, and have to get used to this now, after being with Brothers Keeper for years, but if it is any use I can send the rest of the details direct. I don't spend half the time I would like and used to, on Family History. Need another 'me' or more hours in a day ... Cheers, Deb. -----Original Message----- From: suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:suffolk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Phil White Sent: Monday, 18 October 2010 9:15 AM To: suffolk@rootsweb.com Subject: [SFK-UK] OSBORNE Hi Folks, I am working on the OSBORNE family of which my nephew in New Zealand is a part and as far back as I have got to the present, with the great help from 2 members of this list. I am unable to move back any further, so I am hoping to get some help here once again The couple I am interested in is Robert Osborne and his wife Lydia, living in the vicinity of Stow and later, Old Newton I have not found a marriage record so do not know the wife's surname, but the couple had several children Robert OSBORNE 1812, George OSBORNE 1814, Samuel OSBORNE 1817, Eliza OSBORNE 1821, Sarah OSBORNE 1826, John OSBORNE 1828, Mary Ann OSBORNE 1834 I am hoping someone can help me. In a previous email to this list I explained I was creating an Excell spread sheet of the O*SBO*RN* family in Suffolk by location ( Parish). The source of the entries was the old IGI Fiche and the spread sheet contains some 3000 entries, to which I will add as I find them by searching on line via Ancestry.com and Family search. 3. Phil If you go to http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start which has the IGI plus additional records and use the advanced search you should find the marriage of Robert to Lydia GODBOLD at Great Finborough on 26th February 1810. The bride's parish is given as Stavenupland which looks like a mistranscription for Stowupland. There are quite a lot of GODBOLD families in the Stowmarket area (my grandmother came from one) which may make finding her family difficult although on the plus side ther are a number of people researching the family and they may know of her. Unfortunately she doesn't appear to be one of mine! Hope this helps. 3. Hi Phil My Osborne link shown below. Can you shed any light on any of these O's? Best regards David Vesey- Toronto Canada In 1871 census we have Mary HUTCHISON ( b.1850 Deal Kent) working as a servant for a Samuel OSBORNE (b.abt 1820? census hard to read -b. no location given/ can't seem to find him in 81 either) in London. Here's the story: Mary Hutchison was the daughter of MaryAnnJane Vesey (1820-50) of Woodbridge Sfk.She was the daughter of Alice DOWSING (&Thomas Vesey) - she also had a brother named John Osborne Vesey (1825-80). The story is ( unproven to date) that Alice Dowsing (abt 1795 -1842 Woodbridge ) was the base born daughter of Charity Dowsing (abt 1775-1857) and her older boss ( later husband -in 1822) John Osborne (1759-1845). John Osborne had kids before this 1822 marriage in Essex- I just don't know their names( I suspect Essex born). [Interestingly it must be noted that the next 3 generations of various Vesey lines all used the OSBORNE somewhere in naming their kids] Could it be that after her mother Mary Ann Jane Hutchison's /nee V death in Deal Kent 1850 ( and father's confinement to Peckham Asylum circa 1860s) the family stepped in along the way to help. We see Mary Hutchison and her 3 brothers , in 1851 (haven't found them yet after that -save Joseph Vesey Hutchison who died in Woodbridge in Dec1858) with their aunt Susan LOTT ( nee Vesey) and family in Burstall Sfk . Then we find Mary working for the Osborne's in 1871in London ----- could this London O family be linked to John Osborne 1759-1845 ? ..................I really really hate coincidences.

I had read about this new website but hadn't tried it so thanks also for introducing me to it. I will do as you suggest and ask the Norfolk list if they can offer any more ideas. 3. Thanks Nivard and Krithia for the 1841 Census and Robert for the freebdm death possibility. I do have the certificate for this 1839 death thanks Robert, and was disappointed to find that nothing gelled in it for my John as the d/c age was given as 87 so born 1752, way before my John b1783. The informant wasn't someone I recognised from my John's family. The d/c John wasn't his father or grandfather either. I recognise nearly all of the John Docking deaths that you sent from the NBI too thanks Robert but not the 1839 one or the Herbert John Docking one. I think that, for some reason, what I am looking for is not included in Free Reg. I am fairly sure the couple married in Lowestoft as, in Google Books, I found a book called "The parish registers of Lowestoft, Suffolk" by Frederick Arthur Crisp, 1904. It only shows snippet views but one is for John, son of John and Ann IBROOKE, born Aug 3, nee HURREN (no date visible but probably 1810). I am assuming John and Ann married in Lowestoft. I can't find the marriage or the baptism of son John IBROOKE in any year in Lowestoft on Free Reg. However, I have found the record of John's baptism in 1810 in the IGIs, although I cannot find the record of the marriage of his parents. I believe Ann HURREN (his mother) is Mary Ann HURREN (or HEARN) as she gave her name as Ann for other baptisms, according to the IGIs. I was just thinking I might not need to order films from the LDS if you had access to the registers or at least transcriptions of them. If so there was only one birth of a William Hunt in Suffolk in 1899, but he was a William Levi Hunt, in the Stow district, December quarter, volume 4a, page 876. If we look at England as a whole then there were about 80 William Hunt registrations of which none had a second name Harold. It was not unusual however for second names to be added or changed later. As you seem a little uncertain about the date of birth if we look 2 years either side then there were two William Harolds registered in 1898, Bedford and Islington, London and one in 1902, Alvestoke, Hampshire. There were also a few William Harry Hunts reg. during this time. Where did his wedding take place, was it in England? As I cannot see any trace. If this took place in Australia does the marriage certificate or possibly his death certificate give more information, including details of his parents. I suggest that you look at these before searching in England. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Hunt surname This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 1. [SFK-UK] James GARRARD
    2. Jill Dyke
    3. I have been looking for the baptism of my 4*Great grandfather James GARRARD/GARWOOD/GARRETT for about 20 years without success, so I was wondering if anyone else could help me. Here's what I've found out so far:- James GARRARD married Mary PILLER at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on 15 June 1800. They baptized 7 children at Great Yarmouth.:- James Collins GARWOOD 17 Sep 1801 Elizabeth Collins GARWOOD 14 Apr 1803 William Collins GARRETT 1 Aug 1805 Charles Collins GARWOOD 28 Mar 1808 Mary Ann Collins GARWOOD 16 Jul 1810 Thomas Collins GARWOOD 12 Apr 1813 Catherine Collins GARROD 27 Jun 1817 For the last 2 bapts, father's occupation is Sailor. A James GARWOOD age 53 was buried at Great Yarmouth on 7 Feb 1826. A James GARRAD was examined at Great Yarmouth on 7 Jan 1826 and had a settlement of St Leonard, Colchester, Essex. (Original details lost - just index remains) With the middle name of Collins for all his children I suspect James may be a son of the following marriage:- At Sutton, Suffolk James GARRAT of Kirkley married Elizabeth COLLINS of this parish on 17 Oct 1774 (with the mark of James GARARD & signed Eliz Ga COLLINS) The banns at Kirkley, Suffolk in Aug 1774 are for James GARRARD of Kirkley & Elizabeth COLLINS of Sutton. In Kirkley there is a Charles bapt 30 Jul 1775 to James & Elizabeth GARRARD There a Mary Ann Bapt 29 Aug 1787 to James & Elizabeth GARRAD at St. Peter Colchester. So, I'm looking for the baptism of a James GARRARD in approx 1773/4 who was the son of James and Elizabeth, but I've had no luck yet. Can anyone help please? Thanks, Jill

    3. Hi Marg There are 21 DOCKINGs found when you search for the name and Lakenheath but only one John (enumerated as 15) and he is most likely the son of William & Jane It would help to give the details of those you know For example who were the children and who was the son who married in 1845 Of course finding deceased on a marriage cert does not prove he was actually dead Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Is the 1841 Census available online, or can someone please do a > lookup for me? > I am trying to pin down the death of my John Wright Docking between > the birth of his last child in 1826 and 1845 when his son married and > declared his father deceased. > I am hoping that if he is on the 1841, then my time frame for his death > has been decreased somewhat. from Marg in Oz.
