Hi Eddie I have just done a quick search on ancestry on the surname Tricker and got 206 results, most of which seem tohave come from the Suffolk area. Simon
Hi Eddie I presume your man was in the British Army and not the Australian ? If the British Army you are right to recheck as the process of digitising and indexing the surviving records will have unearthed parts in the wrong place Finding somewhere with Ancestry access would be the easiest way The LDS FHS used to have Ancestry but am unsure if thats still the case, perhaps someone can clarify the present situation Failing that they do have a pay per view subscription and a 14 day free trial (just cancel a day or so before the end of the 14 days) They are of course available at Kew If he is a Suffolk lad why not post his name here? Eddie Unfortunately you are a week too late as last week, in recognition of Armistice Day, there was free access to the World War 1 records on Ancestry! You can of course examine the indexes at Ancestry without subscription (look in the Military section for British Army WW1 Service Records 1914-1920 and British Army WW1 Pension Records 1914-1920) to see if your relative is listed. If so perhaps somebody could do a lookup for you, if you give them the name of the person concerned. I believe that the work is now complete on scanning the records that survived. I have seen one or two with charred edges! Brian
Folks, if you think you might be having communication issues or aren't recieving all List mail, you can always check the List archives at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=suffolk (for the SUFFOLK List). Posts that appear in the archives HAVE gone to the List and if there's anything there that you haven't received, you have an issue of some sort. Yes Gary they are on film at the Nat archives at Kew... or were last year when I was there. a lot did not survive as you know and the burnt ones are in various disarray with chunks missing, sadly for me the most important bits. Good luck. Honor Please don't judge me on what I have achieved, but what I have overcome. I got the message OK, but have noticed that since Nov 11, many messages from both the NFK and SFK mail list are being sent to SPAM by my yahoo.mail server. I have had a small break through and now can confirm that my POTTER Family were Non Conformists. I have found the baptism of my greatgrand mother in the Unitarian /Presbyterian records for Framlingham. Unfortunately these records are only for 1821 to 1837 and to get the details on her father I need records which date back to 1800 to 1815. Does anyone know if these earlier records exsist and if so were they might be found. Her father was WILLIAM POTTER and he was born 1813/1814 in Framlingham. It is possible that his father was the WILLIAM POTTER born 1790 in Winston but who lived all his life in Framlingham as he too is baptising his children in the Unitarian Church. Unfortunately my WILLIAM was born just before the available records start. Anyone out there able to help. Thank you, Carol
The Unitarian church in Fram is undergoing refurbishment at the moment. My husband was able to provide old photographs of the church showing the original railings (long since gone to help with one of the 'war efforts'), so new railing will be going up soon. Last Saturday a friend visited, she is _the_ person to ask about Unitarian Records so will phone her now :-) Pat ... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Clarke" <as41400@yahoo.co.uk> To: <suffolk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 16, 2010 11:39 AM Subject: [SFK-UK] Old Unitarian/Presbyterian Chapel Records for Framlingham. Lesley, Many thanks for the information about William Strutt and his family. I had the names of the girls but not the boys. I now also find I had a tangle with William's birth and death dates; and also possibly the wrong Mary as wife. Oh dear. I think his father is also a William and I had them confused. The dates you sent really helped to sort them all out a bit. I have some more tiny scraps of information about the girls, particularly Elizabeth, if you are researching this line. Hi, I am interested in Arnout Montgomery LOVE. No date or place of birth as yet but I suspect Sudbury. He married Eliza Crespigny HOLLAND in 1805 in Sudbury. This was her second marriage. Her maiden name was STRUTT and she was a daughter of William Strutt, the mayor of Sudbury at various times. Arnout died in 1812. He was an army man, in the 63rd Manchester Regiment of Foot, reaching the rank of captain. From the movements of the regiment I suspect he might have died in the Caribbean, at Martinique or Guadaloupe. There were two sons that I know of - Henry Meadows Battey LOVE, b. 1806 in Sudbury; and Thomas William Montgomery LOVE, b. 1811 in Sudbury. I have also seen Thomas listed as Thomas Richard Montgomery Love. There is a gap of four years between the boys so maybe other children I haven't found yet. Thomas married Adelaide Ferdinande Ghislaine Faubert in Brussels, Brabant, Belgium in 1834. He at least was non-conformist and I haven't tracked the marriage entry as yet. Henry failed his first probation year at the Royal Military Academy in 1820 and disappears thereafter from sight. Eliza, still a widow, is living in Queens Square, Bloomsbury, London. Is anyone else interested in this lot? Any information will be gratefully received. Carolyne Sydney
