However, it's not uncommon for families to baptise their children in 'batches'. There can be many reasons for this, ranging from lack of time (and then forgot) to baptise the first to having to save up to pay the fees and taking in a "special offer" by the incumbent: Buy one get one free, for example. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent"

    3. I wonder if some kind soul would be able to do a lookup for me in the parish records of baptisms for St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft. According to Familysearch Beta the following baptisms took place on the same date. Date 4th May 1882 Robert William Reeve Alice Maud Reeve Parents were Robert Reeve and Alice in each case. I don't think they were twins as Robert William's birth was registered in 1879 and Alice Maud's in 1882. I would like to know exactly what is written in the register for each of these children please. I also realise that Christmas is fast approaching so would quite understand if the lookup could not be done till the New Year. Thanks in anticipation, Margaret North Preston, Lancashire

    3. Hi, I wonder if someone who has access to Ancestry would be kind enough to check a piece of information for me please. There is an entry in the London burials in 1866 in the Brent District for a Martha Sosland. I wonder if someone would be able to look and tell me if the original is Sosland or in fact Snowland please? Many thanks for you time Rebecca

    3. Hello Renee, I am connected to Newstead families, however, mine originated in Norfolk, along with a lot of other Newsteads. One member of a large family emigrated to Australia in the mid 1800s, (my ancestor) but the rest seem to have remained in Norfolk. Happy hunting, Liz. Oz. 1. [SFK-UK] American Kingsbury visit to United Kingdom - Boxford Suffolk
    2. Eddie Tricker
    3. Hi Listers Some of you will be interested to read the email message below from Kenneth Kingsbury. Kenneth is a published author of the Kingsbury genealogical lines, including the Kingsburys of Boxford and nearby surrounding areas. Kenneth Kingsbury lives in Dallas Texas. He is planning a Kingsbury Reunion trip to the United Kingdom commencing 06 August 2011. I have his email address should anyone on this forum wish to talk to him about Kingsbury genealogy and his reunion trip regards eddie tricker Australia Hi Everyone, We still have room for up to nine more at the moment that can join us on this Once In A Lifetime event. We plan to spend 11 wonderful days beginning August 6th tour all the Kingsbury ancestral sites of England. On our very first day we will essentially be real tourists as we pass right through the area of Stonehenge and Avebury Henge and it would be silly not to stop and take in this wonderful experience. Even if you have been there before, it is still an awesome area and worth the time. Then we begin our tour of Dorset and Somerset counties which we now know is the ancestral home of one major branch of the Kingsbury family. All those that trace their ancestry to Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand we now know originated from this branch of the Kingsbury family. From there we move to Warwickshire and Lincolnshire which we now believe to be the ancestral homeland for the Kingsbury family that would eventually emigrate to America in 1630 as part of the Winthrop Fleet. We will be able to visit the Kingsbury Hall (Manor) and some of the ancient castles and cathedrals associated with this family. The early surname for this branch of the family was Bracebridge and we were the lords of Kingsbury Hall for over 450 years. As members of this family moved away from Kingsbury Hall they would change their surname to de Kingsbury (from Kingsbury) and that is how our surname came to be. We will even see the small village of Bracebridge which is the southern suburb of Lincoln and the place where the lords of Kingsbury Hall came from. Then it is on to Herts just north of London and we hope to see the excavation site of Kingsbury Castle which it seems is the ancestral home of another branch of the family that seems to have remained in England and primarily settled in London. Finally we will spend time in Suffolk County around Boxford which is the home of that branch of the family that came from Kingsbury Hall in the 1300s before sailing to America in 1630. This is also the home of John Winthrop. We believe that this is the first time such a tour has ever been organized and we are already receiving wonderful support from local historians along the way that wish to meet with us and share their specific history. I am very excited and do hope you can join us. Please do get back to me ASAP as once the last nine seats on the motor coach are filled we will not be able to accept any more participants. If you need to talk to me personally, my home-cell phone is (469)964-0834. Ken Kingsbury Dallas, Texas

    3. Hi Anitra The enumerator was not generally told anything, the information was transcribed from the householders schedules Even if the householder was illiterate and could not find someone to fill it in for them and gave the information to the enumerator, the enumerator would fill in the schedule(s) for them and would know you would not have a head of household as mother or lodger The census pages show one household with two schedules, the strikes that denote the start and finish of a building are in my opinion in the wrong place and the High Road has been entered one schedule to early If you look at the Inhabited column there is a "1" against schedule 70, the next "1" is against schedule 72 The enumeration of "mother" shows she was in the same building rather than a separate one To me the enumerator has not been accurate in marking the start, finish and subdivision of some buildings Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Phil, > > Looking back at the 1871 census might be helpful here > Green, Mendlesham > Jacob Snelling Head wid 69 Ag Lab Mendlesham > Mary Ann Snelling Daughter unm 47 Housekeeper Mendlesham > Ann Eliza Snelling Granddaughter unm 19 Mendlesham > > Annie Eliza Snelling married George Osborne in 1872 > > I would suggest that Eliza Osborne was the illegitimate daughter of > Mary Ann Snelling. 3. Having looked at the images alone, uncluttered by whatever the transcribers made of them, I should say that George, Eliza, Alice and Rosa OSBOURN are a conventional family unit, living in Gipping Road; Their household was initially recorded on schedule no. 70, and has simply been entered across two pages of the enumeration book. The seamstress, Mary Ann SNELLING lived on her own in High Road, and was recorded on schedule no. 71. The fact that she is on the next schedule may indicate that she was just round the corner from the Osbourns - I have no knowledge of the pattern of streets in Old Newton. As to the meaning of her entries of 'Mother', 'lodger' and 'unmarried', I would guess that she was the mother of the householder of the house in High Road, who was - along with any other members of his/her family - absent on census night, leaving Mary Ann alone in the house. Her normal situation was as his/her lodger, and in the case of her being a mother it is likely that Unmarried in this case indicated widowhood. Of course, other interpretations are always possible. 2. Phil White
    3. I would like to thank all who have looked at the 1881 Census for me as it has helped clear the picture. My major problem was not knowing the road layout in Old Newton and couldnt get a map that showed anything worthwhile. Mary Ann Snelling was a spinster, and I have made a good search for a marriage, her father Jacob and the 1861 census shows an illegitimate daughter Ann Eliza(name reversed elsewhere) who married George Orsborne and these folks show up in 1911. So thanks again for your efforts, very much apprecated Phil White in New Hampshire and we are snow free so far
