Should someone be visiting Ipswich Office, and could check out a couple names in the Blything (Bulcamp) workhouse Admission/Discharge Register - I would be grateful. I have the Record Office references for the two items that would need to be checked - and a likely year for an admission.. 3. There were no Godden (or variants which I would expect) surnames in the Suffolk hearth taxes for any of the surviving lists between 1662 and 1674. There are some Gooden and Goodings and their variant spellings. This suggests that either your Godden was a variant spelling, or that most of the family were from another county. If you are interested in the Gooden/Gooding entries, please email me off list. I would normally have referred you to previous correspondence on hearth taxes as to what is available, but I now find that the Suffolk roots archive of pre 2007 are not available so as to refer you to the details of what is available. I know he married a Hannah and they had a family, one of whom married a Dickerson. He was a farmer and a butcher and, I am told, also ran the Shoulder of Mutton PH in Assington: this may have been the present building which was first put up in 1832 as a coaching inn. I have not yet been able to any further back and any pointers would be much appreciated. TIA Rikki

    3. Hi I am writing to provide an update on the 1871 Suffolk FreeCen project. Another 4 pieces have been uploaded to the on line database and are now searchable for free on the main freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk These are pieces RG101723 Hadleigh which covers the parishes of Boxford, Naughton, Kersey, Layham, Lindsey, Polstead, Semer, Whatfield. RG101734 Stowmarket which covers the parishes of Stowupland , Stowmarket RG101747 Capel St Mary which covers the parishes of Chattisham, Holton St Mary, Higham, Shelley, Stratford St Mary, Copdock, Washbrook RG101764 Orford which covers the praishes of Orford , Butley , Chillesford , Gedgrave , Havergate Island , Iken , Sudbourne , Tunstall , Wantisden This means that there are now 145,696 (47.2%) 1871 Suffolk census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have given their time freely to help the project without their help this information would not be available. There is still much to be done and if you would like to help please contact me on bandys@worldonline.co.uk I still have plenty of 1871 areas available for transcription so if you fancy having a go please contact me. The information is available in digital format and can be sent via email. -- Bev Howlett FreeCen Co-Ordinator Norfolk 1861,1871,1891 Suffolk 1841, 1871, 1891 Cambridge 1861, 1891 Surrey 1871,1891 Find Out How To Help http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bevsnorfolkinfo/ http://www.freecen.org.uk

    1. [SFK-UK] Archdeaconry Marriage Licence help please?
    2. Paula Hadgraft
    3. Hi, I was wondering if there is some kind soul who is going to the Ipswich RO that wouldn't mind taking a photo of an Archdeaconry Marriage Licence please? The information I have on my 8th great grandparents marriage is from a cousin: "John Hadgrave of Ipswich (single), married Sarah Garrard (single) of Henly, at Rushmere on 2nd June 1688. Alnice (?) Hadgrave, of Ipswich, bondsperson" It doesn't say which Rushmere it is referring too. Plus I would like to confirm the bondsperson's name, as I don't have an Alnice Hadgrave that would fit in my tree. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you, Regards, Paula Hadgraft Melbourne, Austalia
