    1. [Sturm/Storm] DAR No longer Accepting Application on Jacob Sturm/Catherine Frushour
    2. Leland Blackwell
    3. My wife received notification letter dated August 22, 20023. I quote: "However, although listed in our Patriot Index, we are no longer accepting applications on the above named man. There seems to have been confusion between him and another man of the same name." Second letter received dated September 11, 2003 stated: There seems to have been confusion between THREE men of that name. In the early days of the Society little or no documentation was required to prove lineage and service" We are at a crossroad now. We can set on our PITY POT and blame the DAR, or we can take a positive approach and try to document our Patriot so as to be accepted by the DAR. I am trying to locate a copy of the article published in the Fairmont Times dated June 17,1904, which stated a copy of Jacob Sturm's discharge from a Virginia Regiment had been found. Page 22, Sturm Genealogy book dated 1937. If we could locate a copy of that record and it shows a specific named Regiment that would be sufficient documentation. After studying the Maryland Archives records of he Military service of Jacob Sturm, Jacob Storm, Jacob Storromm, I do not see how anyone can make a determination of which one of the three Jacob's were serving in the Maryland units. All three were born in Fredrick County, Maryland. The DAR Genealogist Ms. Heather Kramer stated that, the Jacob Sturm that is listed in the 1790 Maryland Census is the one who served in the Revolutionary War and that it was not our Jacob. I concede that the Jacob Sturm listed in the 1790 census is not our Jacob's stated in the Sturm Genealogy book. The reason is that our Jacob was married in 1784, his first son was born 1786 and second child a daughter born in Oct 1790. The census shows 23 males over 16 and 2 males under 16 and 2 females. This scenario does not meet the criteria as stated for the Jacob Sturm that the DAR said was the one who served. He also was married in 1784 and had two sons. As all of you Sturm's can see, we have a long and difficult task ahead of us. At this time any suggestions or help would be appreciated. If anyone would like a copy of the two letters let me know and I will send them to you as an attachment, or if possible I could copy and paste them on an e-mail. Leland

    1. [Sturm/Storm] Margaret Sturm of Stark County, IL 1860
    2. Jeanine Wichman
    3. I am looking for confirmation of Margaret Sturm's husband's last name. I have them listed in the 1860 Elmira Township, Stark County, Illinois census, living with Henry and Elizabeth Sturm. I think Charles' last name looks like Mitchel, but I am not sure. Does any one know for sure what his last name is? Charles was born about 1840 in Ohio. Margaret was born about 1841 in Illinois to Henry Sealy Sturm and Elizabeth Osborne. Jeanine Wichman [email protected]

    1. Re: [Sturm/Storm] Sturm Reunion
    2. Leland Blackwell
    3. Duane, I am forwarding your message on to Karen Sturm in Caldwell, Kansas. We have been having a Sturm/Hess reunion the last three years in September. This year it will be September 7. She can add you to the mailing list. In fact if you will send me your mailing address, I will add it to my master list for the Sturm /Hess mailing list. My wife's side of the Sturms (Bonard) hosted it last year. That was how I got involved, having to do the mailing list. I became more knowledgably of all the Sturms. Then started on my wife's DAR application. By the way I am completing it tonight for her, should be in the mail in a couple of days. Good luck, Leland ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mr. D" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 22, 2003 3:23 PM Subject: [Sturm/Storm] Sturm Reunion > To all who are interested; > > I would like to have, or see, a Sturm reunion, for all Sturm decendants, especially those of [Col.] Henry Sturm and more especially those who are in the West, but would welcome any from anyplace. > > Would appreciate it if those interested would notify me as to where they would like it held. 2. Dear List Members: This message is of HIGH IMPORTANCE, but is NOT to be further discussed on this list.  Any comments you have should be sent directly to: Joan Young, [email protected] or Don Hartman, [email protected] The following message was sent to all Rootsweb List administrators, and we were directed to pass it along to list members: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >From Rootsweb Staff: "This is a period of intense political times when emotions and opinions will run high in many directions. 1. [Sturm/Storm] DAR REQUIRMENTS
    2. Leland Blackwell
    3. How many times have you wished that your ancestors had just documented some of the things one hundred or so years ago? Now you have a chance to do just that for some of your decedents. I am in the process of documenting my wife's application for the DAR. This is starting with Jacob Sturm bn, 1762 and died April 1842 (Our Patriot) , Jesse bn. 1809 and died December 1885, Jesse Tyler Sturm, bn. Feb.1844 and died July 1920,Leoda Belle Sturm Bonard, Floyd E Bonard, Nellie Mae Bonard. The latest approved case was in 1961. I am trying to document each generation with new documentation that is available so that down the line there will not be any question whether or not the documentation is acceptable. At the present time there is some questions on using a sur name genealogy History as a reference. What I am trying to document is: The burial site of Jacob and Catherine and Jesse and Mitilda Sturm. Would like to have a copy of a picture of each grave site showing the names. Jacob buried at cemetery in Worthington, Marion County, WV. Jesse is in Wyatt , Harrison County, WV. I need some documentation showing that Jesse is the son of Jacob. (I have numerous references by the Sturm History of this lineage, but I am trying to obtain an independent source, i.e.a deed, a Will or some legal transaction.) Does anyone have a copy of the obituaries of Jesse's death in 1885? I understand there is a book (2 volumes ) of obituaries in the Marion County Library by W. Guy Tetrick. I am requesting a copy of Jacobs Revolutionary service records from the NARA. If someone has already done this and would like to send me a copy of it, I would be appreciative. I have requested Jesse Tyler and Lavinia Hess's marriage certificate indicating they were married in Feb 1866 in Marion County, WV. If anyone has any type of documentation that I haven't mentioned and would be willing to give me, I will pay the cost to have you to send it to me. If we can document this case as outlined, I don't feel that there would be any problem for any of our women from the Sturms to get into the DAR with this type of documentation. 1. [Sturm/Storm] Sturm decendants
    2. Mr. D
    3. Would like to hear from any decendant of James Wesley Sturm, son of Henry Sturm, and Husband of Susan England. He was born in 1838 in West Virginia and died in Oregon. I have much on his children who came to Oregon but very little, if any, on those who stayed in West Virginia. Would be very willing to share. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Would truly like to correspond with any decendant. Please send any answers to this inquiry to Duane Sasser [email protected]

    1. [Sturm/Storm] Jacob 1759 & Jesse 1809
    2. Leland Blackwell
    3. Am researching Jacob Sturm 1759-1842,Jesse 1809-1885, Jesse Tyler 1842-1920, Leodas Sturm Bonard 1868-1959, Floyd Bonard 1895-1965, Nellie Bonard Blackwell 1926 to document legibility equipments for Nellie to join the DAR. My brick wall is:Documenting That Jesse is the son of Jacob. DAR will not accept County Histories, nor Genealogy surname books.(the SAR will accept DAR documents but not vice versus. I have final documentation for our son and grandsons for the SAR) Can some one give me some guidance on where to obtain some documentations that I can use? Is the church that Jacob help build in the 1805 and later years, still standing and would they have any records that could be used? 1850 is the first census that would list the names of the family members, but Jacob died in 1842, so that does not help. This would be in the Harrison County area, from the best of my research would be near the Shinnston area. Any help would be appreciated. Leland
