    3. JOSEPH L. STUMP Joseph L. Stump was born November 5, 1845, and departed this life December 16, 1919, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 11 days. The subject of this sketch was united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. Jones August 4, 1865 and to this union were born six children, four of whom preceded him to the world beyond, as did the wife who passed away less than four months ago. Mr. Stump spent his entire life in this county, holding the sheriff's office for four years; working as foreman of the construction branch of the Carmichael Company for eighteen years, and as long as health permitted, being a man of influence in the community. He heard the call of the country and enlisted in the 72nd regiment Indiana Volunteers, Co. F, but was transferred to Co. H, where he served until the close of the war, being in the service more than three years. He was naturally strong in body and mind, having commanding influence over men, but for some time has been in very poor health, having had four strokes of paralysis, and last winter came near dying from gas suffocation. His final illness was of short duration, and came even before the nearest relatives were aware of it. He is survived by two brothers: Orcino of Boswell, and Clifford of Williamsport. Two sisters: Mrs. Matilda Crawford, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs Susan Thomas of Ambia. Also two sons: George B., of Greenberg, Kansas, and James Marion, of Williamsport, Indiana and one grandson. The funeral services were held at the residence last Thursday at 2 p.m., December 18, by the Rev. John E. McCloud, and interment took place in the Highland cemetery. NOTE: According to Joseph's Obit, there are three of his children who are unaccounted for. Also, his sister Matilda still lives. However, according to the obit I received, she died in 1879. This leaves to to question if this Joseph is in fact Lemuel L. Stump's son, for Matilda's obit names her parents as Lemuel L. and A.D. Stump. There is also the chance of a typo.
