    1. Brethren STUMPS migrating to Kentucky
    2. I was really looking up something else in Austin Cooper's TWO CENTURIES OF BROTHERSVALLEY CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN 1762-1962, when I glanced down and saw some Stump names on page 374 under Appendix A, MIGRATIONS INTO THE SOUTH. It begin discussing the time period from 1780 to 1800. "Why so many of them left Stony Creek and Bruedersthal is not definitely known but it is believed that the hard winteres that seem to cover a span of about 15 years was largely responsible for it..." Another possibility mentioned is land survey problems. "KENTUCKY. 1780: George Drake, Oliver Drake, settled north of Frankfort; William Greathouse, John Greathouse, John Hershberger, George & John Shenifelt, Simon Shaver, JOHN STUM (STUMP), ADAM STUM, Casper Hoover, Pence Leaman, James Parker, Henry Shidler." So these were Dunkards (Brethren) who left Somerset County for Kentucky that year. Presumably John & Adam were related somehow. Jan T
