The following may be of special interest to those whose STUMP roots are in Pennsylvania. In a recent issue of "Penn Pal," the newsletter of the Pennsylvania chapter of Palatines to America, is an article about present and future publication of booklets on fraktur by Corinne and Russ Earnest. The Earnests have collected information from fraktur and have published books on the subject. Fraktur are decorated manuscripts with the beautiful German fraktur script made by and for Pennsylvania Germans from about 1750 through the 19th century. Many fraktur documents are Taufschein, i.e., birth/baptismal certificates. Not only are they beautiful works of art, but they can be a gold mines of genealogical information. In addition to recording the names of the child and his/her parents, the dates and location of birth and baptsim are given as well as the baby's baptismal sponsors who are often relatives. The Earnests are planning on publishing a series of single-surname booklets that have data from fraktur. The booklets represent 30 years of their data collection and will range from 20 to 40 pages. Four of these surname booklets are available now and sell for $10 each plus $2 for shipping. Among the four booklets available now is the one on the STUMP surname, and I thought some of you might be interested in it. (The others available now are on BIEBER, FAUST and SHIRK.)
