The letter I got from the Hardy Co Historical Society today also confirmed the dates and names of the Neffs and Wilsons I mentioned all interrelated to John Stump and Sarah Neff. Diana in AK HC 85 Box 77 Fisher, VS 26818 July 3, 1999 "Enclosed is a copy of page 52, Hardy County Record of Marriage, 1795. As you can surmise, this is a bound volume of records, the pages of which have survived moderately good condition, but portions of which have been damaged and lost. This is the only record available from that period. The Clerk of Court can provide a typed certification of this record of marriage for $2.00 per certificate. The marriage certificate of this marriage is not among the public records of Hardy County. The other marriages you inquired about are also recorded in the same volume. The information you have is correct in every case, with page numbers and additional information as follows: John Stump and Sarah Neff 6/4/1814 by Gerard Morgan page 52 Mary Wilson to John Neff 6/3/1813 by Ferdinard Lair page 55 Jane Wilson to Isacc Neff 5/19/1806 by Ferdinand Lair page 24 (The date May 25, 1806 also appears with this entry; possibly it is the date of the marriage and 5/19/1806 the date of the license) Rebecca Yokum and Michael Neff 11/10/1813 by Gerald Morgan page 47 (the page number is messing from the page) Ann Neff and George S. Craigen 9/9/1816 by Joseph Garten, J.P. page 142 (this bears on the date line "State of Ohio, Frankin County;" in the handwriting of Hardy County clerk Ed Williams) Susan Neff and Edward Hopper 8/1/1805 by Ferdinard Lair page 19(also bears date July 31, 1805--possibly the date of the liscense) This is the only information available on these marriages, merely confirming what you already have. I know of no other resources available to aid you in your research. You might wish to place a want ad or write a letter to the editor of The Moorefield Examiner, 132 South Main Street, Moorefield, VS 26818, seeking other descendants of the ancestor you are reseaching. ............ I'm correcting the first line of my last post. Harriett Stump m. Francis Schudy ca. 1835. The name Schudy can be spelled several different ways. If you have an ancestor who m. a Juda, Judy, Chudy, etc. this may still be the same person. Thanks Julie
Hello Stump listers, I've posted to this list before but with no results so am going to try it from a different direction. I am looking for info on a woman named Francis Schudy (Judy, Shudy, etc.) Her name could have been I. Harriett Stump or Harriett Stump. Harriett was b. in Lancaster Co, PA in 1816 and married Francis assumedly in Lancaster Co. They moved to Clark Co, MO and Harriett d. in 1857 where she is buried. Their children were Sarah, Christian, Harriett, John, Leah, Jacob, Mary Ann, Anna Sophronia, Matilda and Margrette. Does anyone know anything about this family? In particular who were Harriett's parents? Thanks Julie
I just received a copy of the book from the Hardy Co Historical Society. I must thank them for the time they spend. It is very hard to read but the date may be either June 4 or 14, 1814. There are no parents listed for either. "John Stump & Sarah Neff being published as required by law were married together June 4, 1814." February 13, 1815 Gerard Morgan

It is said that he and his half-brother Christopher started to move to Tennessee. "They got as far as Loudoun County, Virginia. And there for some reason or other ... (he) stopped and settled on a tract of land along Goose Creek. It is said that Christopher Stump went on , and no more was ever heard of him, ...". "And it is said that Great-Great-Grandfather Peter Stump lived in Loudoun County, Virginia till about 1801, or 1802, and then moved to Hampshire County, Virginia. " He was supposed to have been "69 years old when he died there in 1809". The above info is taken from the book STUMP, Peter Stump of Hampshire County, VA; 1740 ca 1809; by Joseph & J. Milton Stump, edited by Robert H. Knotts, Sr. of Salisbury, NC, Nov 1987. According to the original author, "The early records of our strain of the STUMP family comes mostly by word of mouth, as I have stated few records were kept. " The original author's father, Joseph Stump, started an outline by memory in 1903. Note: The book is approximately 100 pages. Hope you have or can locate a copy as it pertains to your Peter Stump who married Mary Widen (or Widon), about 1772, of low Dutch descent from Holland. Carol Campbell, Southwest Colorado

I have found on the LDS site the SEE line states that Catherine SEE's parents were: I did copy one thing that says- Catherine SEE's parents were Frederick See and mother Catherine Vanderpool. Then it says that James Leonard Stump married Catherine See but only names two children. Hannah Stump and Elizabeth(Betsy) Stump. I think there were lots of links and more information, but the See's will have to wait until I can figure out the Neff, Wilson and Stump combination. The Neffs say that Elizabeth SEE's parents were George SEE and Christiana(--). Here is another interesting things IF I can explain it correctly. Just to show you how confusing it can get. If you don't use dates or places just names. Jacob Stump married Amelia(Emelia)Stump. Their son George Stump Neff married Mary Ann Craigen. Mary Ann Craigen's parents were George SEE Craigen and Ann Neff. Ann Neff was the daughter of Jacob. Do you think George SEE Craigen's mother was a SEE. This same George SEE Craigen's sister, Mary Ann Neff married Elijah Neff son of Geroge Neff, brother of Jacob. Michael See Stump, son of Leonard Stump Jr, and Elizabeth SEE married Elizabeth Ann Burgoyne. Michael Neff Stump, son of George Stump and Catherine Neff, married Sophia Long. I could barely follow that myself. Diana in AK

Have you checked >out Don Norman's files? If not, you might try to find your Elizabeth Starr >there. Yes, I have talked to the Starr line and that is not mine. I now know that my Elizabeth Stump/Wilson was the Daughter of John Stump and Sarah Neff both of Hardy Co. My John Stump was the son of George Stump(I) and Elizabeth Massey Wilson. I personally would use Elizabeth Massey WILSON on this one below. Because I feel Wilson was her maiden name. Also their son John is my John Stump who married Sarah Neff. The Neffs feel that Leonard Stump Sr was married to a Catherine(they haven't found any evidence of her last name yet) and Leonard Stump Jr. was married to Elizabeth SEE.This John Stump here married to Prudence Parsons-- was a son of a Leonard Stump JR. They have been through Hardy Co deeds and wills to determine this. The George Stump, brother of my John, was married to Catherine Neff. This George was an Uncle to my George Stump and Catherine Jane Neff. Also Catherine Neff and Catherine Jane Neff were related--first cousins once removed. Also my George Stump and Catherine Jane Neff were 2nd cousins. Catherine and Sarah's father was Michael and Mary Neff. Catherine Jane Neff's father was a brother of Michael Neffs--Abraham Neff married to Elizabeth SHOOK. Another thing is Abraham's son Isaac' wife was Phebe Stump. Phebe Stump was the daughter of Leonard Stump JR. and Elizabeth SEE. They also have a John Neff, son of Jacob Neff, married to Dorothy Stump(daughter of Leonard Stump JR and Elizabeth SEE). I would have never found my line if I had followed just Don Norman's website. I did contact him with my information and never heard back from him. The Neffs have been way more helpful and I feel really understand the Hardy Co. Neffs, Stumps and Wilsons. They are all interconnected. I also feel I'm connected to the Charles Wilsons of Hardy Co because Catherine Neff and Sarah Neff's two brothers(Abraham and Issac Neff) were married to two of Charles Wilsons daughters. Also Catherine and Sarah's brother (Jacob)was married to a (Amelia or Emilia) Stump.. but haven't found much on them yet-- and don't say go to Don Norman's site-- because I have. I see as more and more of us come in with our lines to attach to the ones already researched..there needs to be a good discussion of what happened before and why they came to that conclusion. There are so many similar names in all my three Neff, Stump and Wilson families that you really have to be careful. It is very confusing. > (ii) George (b. I, too, wish to thank Gloria Husk for all the work she has provided to the family. I may be able to add to it regarding Hampshire County and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Everything from this point is taken from a volume called "The Family Stump A Record of The Three Jesses" by Eileen Hiser Dove. Hans Michael Stump arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Phoenix" on September 30, 1743, with his wife Maria Catherine and a young daughter named Maria Catherine. He established his home on the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River in what was then Spotsylvania County Virginia. (During the time he lived on this land it became Orange , Frederick , Augusta and Hampshire Counties. After his death it changed to Hardy County, Virginia as it remained until 1860 when it became Hardy County West Virginia) John (Hans) Michael Stump was an aquaintance of George Washington, and possibly Lord Fairfax. George Washington at age 16 surveyed the Stump tract. Michael(i) and Catherine had 3 sons and 3 daughters: (ii) Maria (Mary) Catherine b. Oct 22, 1741, Schlaitdorf Germany m.
