Hello Listers, I am new to this list, and this is a query I hope someone can help me with. I am looking for Elias Stump's parents. I believe them to be Michael Stump 111, that married Magdalene Richards. They had a son John, b. 12-06-1795, Hardy Co. (W)VA. My Elias was b. in 1795 too, and in Hardy Co.. He is first listed in the tax records (about 16 yrs. old) in Pendleton Co. in 1812. He is also listed in Lewis Co. tax record in 1819. Could the son of Michael and Magdalene be the same person, and his name was John Elias Stump...named for his Uncle Elias Hughes, brother to his mother Sarah Hughes? I am grateful for any tidbit of information. Thank you, Evelyn
just testing folks

Dear Barb & list Julia Ann Stump, daughter of John, granddaughter of Peter married John Hiett. They lived at Lina Hietts place at the Forks of the Capon. There were 5 children: 1) Samuel 2) Joseph 3) John S. 4)May 5) Annie John Hiett was the son of Joseph and Ailisia Sutton Hiett. He had 2 brothers Evan and Samuel and 3 sisters. On one of the old diagrams it seems as if there are 2 children listed, Pierce Hiett Will I don't know which of Julias son had these children. Augustus is next. P.S. I know on some of these letters the where-abouts are vague. Unfortunately whoever wrote these down assumed we would know the places by the names of the owners of the property. Or a LEONARD STUMP that married a MARY MORROW? Thanks! ELLIESS@AOL.COM
Deanne Bailey, Does your Bible happen to mention a Leonard Stump born abt. 1766, or his wife Mary Burger/Burgen? If it does I am extreemly interested. He's my dead end. Thanks, and thanks for sharing. Hopefully you'll be the answer to someone's prayers. LeRena Stump Yakima, WA LERSTUMP@prodigy.net
Deanne Bailey Do the Bibles and or picture albums mention an Elizabeth Stump born in 1745, whose parents are Thomas Stump and Jane Booth? Elizabeth married Henry Jackson and there were many children. They lived in Greene County, PA and moved later to Guernsey Co., Ohio, where they both died. Oh, how much this is my family. Thank you, Alice Windle

Dear Listers, I actually came upon the bible by a fluke, After my husbands grandfather died, his grandmother asked us to help clean out the homeplace. This house has been in the family since 1898. One of my husband's ggg Uncles built it and the immediate family acquired it in 1918. Behind the house stood the original washhouse as when it was built there was no inside plumbing. As I was clearing out the washhouse I came upon a large package wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. I asked Grandma who was in her 80's what it was and she said she had never seen it before. I opened the package and it was 2 very old bibles and 3 picture albums. The bibles themselves are dated 1872. The one bible is black and inscribed on the front in gold is the name Jacob Stump jr.. The other bible is also black. They are both very fragile and pretty worn. On the inside of the bible there seems to be scribbling by a child it seem to say,Daniel Thompson, Moorefield Junction Hampshire W.Va., July 14,1886. A Rainy Day.In this bible there is inscribed in quill various births and deaths of relatives. There is a long strand of hair tied that seems to have been used as a marker and dried flowers between the pages of some. The albums have many pictures and I myself have scads of antique pictures. I have no idea who many of them are but you can see family traits in many. If anyone needs information about this line please let me know as I have extensively researched this for over ten years. I told my husband he does not realize how lucky he is to open a book and have almost the entire family tree written down. On my side I have tried for years to find mine as they came over from Ireland with very little education. The Stumps were educated you can see this in their writings. They seem to have followed the Baptist Religion as I recall seeing the words Primitive Baptist before. I also have old market lists and what seems to have been a written agreement between Stump and a Pugh from the area. Please respond If I can help, Deanne Bailey Stump We are now living in the homeplace as I hope my grandchildren will someday
