For years, nobody has come up with our Barbara's last name, but one researcher told me he thought it was Stump. Hello Stump cousins, I am new to the list and I need help finding my G-G-Grandfather, Jacob Reeher Stump. I don't know when he was born or who his parents were. He married Sarah Kistler about 1866. Their daughter, Minnie Mae Stump, was born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA August 6, 1870. She married Oliver Jackson Nipple on June 5, 1889 in Salem Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. In Craik's History of the Brethren in Kansas I find another Stump from this same bunch with a connection to McPherson College. A biographical sketch on John Wilby Deeter on p 288 mentions that he married a Stump: "In August, 1913, Brother Deeter was united in marriage with Miss Effel N. Stump, a graduate from the Normal department of McPherson College. During the two years following graduation, the young couple taught in the public schools of Bloom, Kansas. While there Brother Deeter took his turn in preaching in the Brethren church. In the winter of 1913-1914 they attended Bible Institute at the college and while in attendance received encouragement from President Kurtz to secure better educational preparation for service in the church...." So Effel's husband went to Yale to get a B.D. from the Yale School of Religion in 1918. Effel is in my records (taken from Prof. Harley H. Stump's notes) as Nancy Effel Stump, d/o Rev. John W. Stump and Louisa Bradford Weaver. That makes her a sister to Levi A Stump who was teaching in the Normal Department at Mac. She had a twin sister, Alice Edith. ("Alice was 20 minutes older than Effel.") In Prof Stump's notes Effel married "John H. Detter," with children Wendell, Harlan & Gladys Detter Nichols named. However, Deeter is a good old Brethren name, and I believe Gladys Nichol was a member of the Wichita church where I grew up; her son was, I think, the vice principal of my high school a mere 45 years ago, but he didn't come to the Wichita church. On the other hand, I could have made a typo when entering those names, but it's hard for me to imagine anybody as precise as Prof Stump getting the name wrong..... Anyway, Effel, Levi A's sister, got her teacher training in the same dept at McPherson College where he was on staff. Effel's husband taught for a time in the Extension Dept at Mac and was still teaching in the Bible School at Mac in 1921, when Craik's book went to press. Maybe we can figure all this stuff out yet. Here is information one friend gave me on Levi STUMP A) Levi, Age 18, Enlisted on 10/4/64 as a Pvt, Mustered into Co. D, 25th OVI, Mustered out on 10/20/65. Fought in SC till the end of the war. B) Levi M. Stump, Age 25, Enlisted on 9/5/64 as a Corporal, Mustered in on 10/6/64 into Co. K, 180th OVI, Mustered out on 7/12/65 at Charlotte, NC. Levi STUMP married Eliza J.BEBOUT 5 Oct 1864 in Washington County, OH. They had 2 children; Etta (Hattie) and Arthur Eliza and Hattie are shown in Washington County Census living with Stewart BEBOUT, Eliza's father. Evidently Levi may have died. Dovie Stump married Clifford Dorsey. They had 8 children, all born in Ohio. Clifford Dorsey was born 1884 & died 1976, Franklin Co., OH Robert Clifford Dorsey, the 7th child was born in 1919, Groveport, Franklin Co. OH I have no stats on Dovie Stump. Death certificate for Robert Clifford lists Mother as "Dovie Stump". Same as birth certificate. Granddaughter of Clifford, says her father said they moved to Ohio and died in Ohio. Somebody sent me a partial photocopy of a page in the 1986 Koskiusko County History (most of which was about some Kuhns and Mocks) but there's a fragment at the bottom corner in an item about Charles Kyle which has a Stump: Basically, these Kyles had one daughter, who married a Conaway and had two daughters, Carol & Loretta Yvonne Conaway. "Carol married Roger Lee Stump ___ Webster. They have two children: Tone [and?] Kevin Roger Stump. Tone married Ra____Hartman and when Justin Ray Hartman [fragment ends.] Someday somebody may want to know about this connection.

Stump" Now that I've seen more of his handwriting, I can tell that his other typewritten letter bears the signature 'JESSE H. STUMP,' because his capital H's are elaborate enough that they could says Sr, but they really are H's. I have more on these folks that is given in his letter, if anyone wants to claim them.
