Surnames: Swangel, Swangle, Straub, Stroup Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0IQBAEB/302.1 Message Board Post: John Charles SWANGEL/SWANGLE remarried 21 Nov 1839 in Harrison Co., OH, to Agnes SUDDETH, so while Elizabeth STROUP had surely died *by* 1839, I wonder if she actually died *in* 1839. John C. SWANGEL appears in the 1840 census of Harrison Co, OH, with a wife (b. 1810-20), who is presumably Agnes SUDDETH. The numbers indicate that John & Elizabeth had had three children (two daughters and a son) born between 1830 and 1835, but no children were born between 1835 and 1840, which suggests Elizabeth may have died as early as 1835/6. The 1840 census also reveals that John was born 1780-90, which means he was in his 40s or 50s when he married Elizabeth, so it's very likely he had had an earlier wife. I can find neither John, nor a widow, Agnes, in the 1850 census. Back then, most people, especially daughters, lived with their parents until they married, so if Elizabeth was married in 1833 in Harrison Co., we might expect to find her parents there in the 1830 and/or 1840 censuses. I can find no STRAUBs/STROUPs/etc. in Harrison Co., OH, in 1830 or in 1840, which, unfortunately, means identifying her parents is likely going to be difficult. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
