He made the trip five or more times going west by wagon train and returning via ship from San Francisco to Panama, across by land to the eastern shore then by boat to the east coast and across land to Indiana to see his folks. His son was born in Indiana (Henry Burdett Stroup) 1878 my great grandfather. I know the history book says he went to Dakota but not so. My Henry B. Stroup is listed in the 1850 census of El Dorada County, CA. Sisters and brothers are a match and the only large Stroup family I find in Indiana in 1850 so it seems logical that they are the same. Any help would be appreciated.
