    3. I'm afraid my coding of the German letter S-Zett (double-S) got slaughtered in the transmission. If you own a DOS/Windows computer, you can call forth the letter by using the numerical keypad. Hold down the Alt Key, then type 0223 on the numerical keypad. It won't work with the numbers above the letter-keys. Be sure your Numlock is ON. It also won't work with some fonts, but it works with the common, standard ones. In a few minutes, I'll be putting up a web page to give examples of the letter. The URL will be: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/S-Zett.htm Sorry for the mixup. By the way, does anyone know how to put Alt-0223 (German double-s) in an email so it comes out German double-s? I thought ANSI Codes were more-or-less universal. What about using an ASCII code. Here, I'll test it: ß There, that was the ASCII code for German double-s, which is Alt-225. Did it work? Diana

Well, obviously, the ASCII code did work. Live and learn... For the record, I'm going to repost my original message with the correct coding. It just doesn't make sense the way it is. Diana
