    2. Hi, I found some Stroup family info when searching Ohio and PA family and county history archives and thought I'd pass it on in hopes it helps someone. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES- 1. JACKSON STROUP, farmer and blacksmith, PO Chatham Center, b. March 9, 1822 in Rich Hill Twp., Greene Co., PA, son of SAMUEL and RACHEL (RUSH) STROUP. SAMUEL was a son of THOMAS, of German descent, to whom were born JOHN, GEORGE, MILLIE & LAVINA. JACKSON was a lad of 13 when his parents came West. His father located first in Spencer purchasing land for $5 per acre. He did not remain long on this place and moved considerably before he died, renting land in different areas. He died 1840. He had 9 children;LUCINDA, ELIZA, JACKSON, SILAS, GEORGE, PARKER, OLIVER, MARTIN & PHILLIP. JACKSON m. abt. 1847 DELILAH HAINES of Wooster Ohio. They located in Spencer Twp in 1859. They had 6 children: GEORGE A. GARNER, CHESTER, MARTHA (m. William Maxon), EDMAN AND HARVEY. They were members of M.E. Church. 2. Leonard Steffee m. SALLY STROUP who is the dau. of ADAM AND EVE STROUP, natives of PA. They had on son; Samuel Steffee. 3. MARGARET STROUP m. William King of Coshocton Co., Ohio. They had one son that I know of; Jaco King. Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Ohio 4. MARIA STROUP m. Daniel Wannamaker at the age of 22, they had one son, JONAS, who was killed at the battle of Perrysville, in the war of 1861-65. He was an orderly sergeant in the 150th Ohio Vol. The first wife of died about 18 months subsequent to her marriage and he then married 2nd wife, Mrs. Matilda Murgerger, widow of Daniel Murgerger. 5. MISS ESTER STROUP, dau of JOHN STROUP of Warren Ohio m. ?? King 3-28-1850 and they had 6 children; MARIA E., WILLIAM H, JOHN F. HARRIET L. CLARA S. AND GEORGE N. They were members of Lutheran Church FYI;;;;; Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Ohio 1.The first "Pennsylvania Dutch" families came to Southington about 1834-1835. and just a few of them are; DAVID PALM, JONAS HOFFMAN, GEORGE FLICK, SAMUEL STROUP, ISAAC STROCK AND JACOB HOUCK. 2. The German Reformed and Lutheran Church was organized in 1837 with some of the following members; ANDREW STROUP, LAMBERT CAMP, JACOB HOUCK, JONAS HOFFMAN, GIDEON MOYER, WILLIAM SALEM, HENRY CRUMB, ------AHSBAUCH, JOHN MAHNENSMITH, REUBEN FUSSELMAN and others along with their wives and families Enough for now, I'll post more at a later date.
