Are there any researchers of the Strope spelling of the surname? Especially in the area of Greene Co., PA in a time period from 1790? I have some of the descendants of John Strope b. 1750 in PA but nothing previous. Census takers often spelled the name both Strope and Stroup, but Amelia Strope Tuttle's will and pension applications spell it Strope. I have 2 John Stroup's (John George & John) listed as sons of Adam Straub (abt 1757-abt 1820) that may or may not be your John. Unfortunately, more information than the names I do not have. Greetings cousins, Glad to find a list of, for, and by Stroup(e)s. Have lived within 75 miles of a 6 generation line of Stroups for most of my life, yet have only recently met any Stroup not decended from my grandfather, and none of them had the last name of Stroup(e). I have been into genealogy for about five years, and on line for about two. Of course, I've found more in the last two than the first three. Much, much more. I pretty much have what is available on line as far as spousal and bio info of the early part of line, (see Jim's site, I pretty much have the same info) would love to have any more detailed spouse info, dates, siblings, etc) Will have my info on my homepage soon, don't have it there yet. Also, I live close enough to Ashland to get photos of Ephraim's and Nancy's headstones, and am going to take photos within the next few weeks. I'm searching for any information on my great-grandfather George Stroup b. Oct. 15, 1854 in Rome, Oneida Co., NY, d. Jan. 26, 1917 in Iola, Allen Co., KS, m. Sept. 01, 1879 in Gage Co., Nebraska, Elizabeth Jane Laymon. I have no information on his parents, but I have some possible leads. A few months ago I found a Jonathon W. Stroup b. Mar. 02, 1822 in Columbia, Herkimer Co., NY, d. July 22, 1880 in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska, m. Louisa P. Brown who d. May 18, 1876 in Empeyville, Oneida Co., NY. Since they were in Oneida Co., NY, and Jonathon moved to NE after her death, I suspect Jonathon and Louisa are George's parents, but I have not been able to prove it. I have checked the census for 1860-1880 for NY and 1880-1890 for NE, but have not been able to find either George or Jonathon. My imigrant ancestors are William Strup and Mary Elizabeth ___________. William came to America in 1737 on the ship Samuel from the Palatine region of Germany. He settled on lands acquired in Berkley County, Virginia (now W. VA). He also acquired lands across the Potomac in Berkley County, MD. Their oldest son, Jacob, migrated South and used the "Stroope" spelling of his surname. Each decendant of Jacob has used that spelling to date. I am currently seeking gravesites of several Stroope ancestors in the East Texas area. I am more than happy to share information with anyone researching the Stroope branch. I am a descendent of David & Margaret Inglefinger Stroupe. They were from Lincoln County, NC and moved to Buncombe County, NC. Their daughter or granddaughter, Malinda Stroupe married William W. Redman and raised their family in Buncombe. My problem is proving Malinda's parents. She and William appear in the estate papers for Solomon Stroupe, who is reported to be the son of David.
