Buffaloe Twp. p. 390 1820 Stoup, Vendel PA Armstrong Co. Buffaloe Twp. p. 298 I have examined images of the original census pages (online at Ancestry.com), and the surname is definitely STOUP, not STROUP. STOUP is a bona fide surname, and there were a number of STOUP families in western PA, primarily in Alleghany Co. Bottom line -- in my opinion -- Wendell was not a STROUP.

I believe most of them mustered in the war in the Clarion Co. area. Do you think this is the Joseph you are referring to? I have Joseph was in the PA. Bucktails.

Her son was Zachariah who married a Sarah Luella Crowder. They were married March 26, 1876 and their children were George W and Horace Stroup. On this probate record it states that Carrie, Ira and Arch resides in the Sate of Oklahoma. Do you think this is your family? Do you know if your grandfather had any sisters? I would say they are related, as Michael married Dulcena Morris in 1855 in Clermont County. I have a John, Joseph and Joel with land grants in Ohio. But I am just now researching Clermont, My bunch ended up in Brown County, Mount Orab, Ohio. If I can help let me know and if u have info let me know

I have never heard of another one either! I was named after a brother of my mother....Francis Skidmore who had a son also named after him! So...I have a first cousin named Francis and we both have hated the name! My Grandfather's name was Frederick and I am pretty sure that his father's name was Peter Straub....somewhere, somehow, the name was misspelled either in the Census or at a tiem of enlistment in the Army...??? If you ever run into a logical expanation, please keep me in mind, and thank you for the enquiry!!

I am trying to find someone that has a record of a Phillip Stroup that was born in 1803. That's when my Phillip was born.
