======================================================== OGLETHORPE COUNTY, GEORGIA, USGenWeb Site Query DATE: Sun Aug 16 13:25:49 1998 NAME: Shirley Ashley EMAIL: [email protected] NOTE: Rt. 1, Box 332 Raymondville, Texas 78580 SURNAMES: THOMPSON / STRONG / MARABLE QUERY TEXT: Looking for the parents of Thomas Patterson THOMPSON b. July 8, 1808 in Clarke County, Georgia and married Simmie Ann STRONG on July 29, 1845 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Charles STRONG and Elizabeth MARABLE. Is there anyone willing to do a look-up for me at the courthouse? Maybe, just maybe, it will have the parents listed. I would like a copy of it also; if found. Am willing to pay for it. ======================================================== Your query on the Oglethorpe Co. , GA, USGenWeb site was noticed. I am not very familiar with the Thompson family but am aware of the connection of the Strongs and Thompsons from my research in Goochland County, VA. John Strong, III, was from Hanover County, Louisa County, Goochland County, and Campbell County, VA, and Oglethorpe and Clarke Counties, GA. He was the father of Charles Strong, Sarah Strong, Robert Strong, Catherine Strong, and David Strong. Charles Strong married Sarah Key Thompson in Goochland Co., VA, on 29 NOV 1785. Sarah Strong married John Thompson in Goochland Co., VA, on 21 MAR 1785. John Thompson and Sarah Thompson were children of Richard Thompson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Goochland Co., VA. After the death of Richard Thompson, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson remarried to Charles Johnson. I believe he is the same Charles Johnson who about 1816 married in Goochland County, VA, to Mrs. Nancy Strong Carroll Turner, daughter of Mrs. Ann Strong, my ancestor. Mrs. Ann Strong was the apparent widow of Martin Strong, brother of John Strong, III. I suspect the Thompsons of Oglethorpe Co., GA, are descended from or related to the Thompsons of Goochland Co., VA. You might want to trace the John Thompson family. John Thompson died testate in Clarke Co., GA, in 1810. He named the following children: Richard Thompson, Frankey Strong Price, Betsey Strong Middlebrooks, William Strong (under age 21 in 1810), Sally Strong, Polly Strong, Martin Strong. Mrs. Sarah Strong, widow, was residing in Clarke Co., GA, in 1827, when she was granted land in Coweta County. Susanna Strong, daughter of Robert Strong and Elizabeth Marable, was born in Heard Co., GA, on 14 OCT 1829, per a submission to the International Genealogical Index. So I believe your data about Charles Strong having a wife named Elizabeth Marable is incorrect. Elizabeth Marable was more likely the wife of Robert Strong, brother of Charles Strong. Robert Strong died on 25 MAY 1841, probably in Heard Co., GA. I recommend you correspond with Mr. Billy "Gene" Strong, whose address about 1983 was Route 2, Box 861, New Iberia, LA. He is a descendant - researcher of the Robert Strong family. For the early history of this Strong family see my own web site: http://ro.com/~rts2/ancestry I would be interested in learning more about Simmie Strong Thompson, as I am not familiar with this name. Best wishes in your quest to discover your Thompson and Strong roots. Bob Strong Robert T. Strong, Jr. 119 Mystic Way Madison, Al 35757-8801
