Your message is being forwarded to the Strong Genealogy Mail List, which includes many Strongs who are descendants and/or researchers of Strongs of New York State, particularly, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. You are advised to subscribe to the Strong Mail List and discuss your Strong family there. I can almost guarantee you will find some helpful fellow-researchers. Here is a URL address where you can subscribe online. http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/surnames/index.html You should search the archived messages for the Strong Mail List. Go to this URL to begin your search: http://newsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl My Strongs were from the "South" and I have few resources for Strongs who lived in the "North" of the United States or British earlier colonies. A major genealogy of the descendants of John Strong, the 1635 immigrant from Somerset Shire, England, to Massachusetts, was published by Benjamin Dwight around 1870. His descendants are now organized as the Strong Family Association of America (SFAA). The SFAA has published four updates to Dwight's genealogy plus a fifth update that includes families that were not proven to be descended from John Strong, a tanner by trade, and an "Elder" in his church. He is commonly called "Elder John Strong", although I find that confusing to neophyte family historians. Here are a couple of web sites where you can find out more about the SFAA and its publications: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/4715 http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7905 The only one of the update volumes in my library is STRONG FAMILY HISTORIES, Volume 5. There is one Adelbert Strong indexed. He descended from William Augustus Strong of Durham, Connecticut, and Buffalo, New York. Four descendants and/or researchers of the William A. Strong family are listed on Page 621 of the 1996 book. No John Vincent Strong was indexed in this volume. This William A. Strong has not been indisputeably linked to "Elder John Strong" but that connection is suggested by circumstantial evidence. Incidentally, names like Adelbert were often shortened to Elbert or Bert in legal and/or census records. I have an Etheldred (not a Strong) in my ancestry and found his name spelled half a dozen different ways; he had a son, Jr., whose name became "Eldridge" in legal and/or census records. And by the way, a word of advice: You are more likely to receive replies to your queries if you supply your full name and U. S. Mail address. I consider it impolite to do less. Your are commended for supplying data about your ancestry. Some enquirers do not have the courtesy to do that. Good luck in your search, "BoB T." Robert T.
