Deserted from Capt. Simon Des Cury, of one of his Majesty regiments of foot, commanded by Sir William Pepperell baronet, Patrick Mannus, five feet seven inches high, has black shagged hair, and a black hair mole on his right cheek: Had on when he went away, a blue coat, and black leather breeches. Also << Valentine Strong>> , five feet five inches high, with black short hair: had on when he went away, a brown jacket. Whoever secures the above deserters in any of his Majesty goals, or brings them to Capt. Douglass, of the said regiment, now recruiting here, shall have a Guinea reward for each, and all charges paid. +++++++++++++++ June 21, 1750 The Pennsylvania Gazette ITEM #11892 Run away from William Spear, of Donnegall township, Lancaster county, 2 servant men; one a native Irish, named << Valentine Strong>> , he is about 5 feet 6 inches high, black complexion,and black eyed, low haired, but cut off: Had on when he went away, a large English castor hat, likewise a grey coloured great coat, with several other old clothes, with ozenbrigs shirt and trowsers; he used to follow soap boiling, in the old country, but now pretends wampum making. The other this country born, about 5 feet 8 inches high, a slender young fellow, pock mark, brownish complexion, a grey coat, with a large cape, leather breeches; took with them 2 creatures, a grey horse, and a white mare, with a foal, the mare has a great scar above her tail. The country born is named Bartholomew Logan, and he is a wampum maker likewise. Whoever takes up and secures said servants, so as they may be had again, if in this province Five Pounds reward, or in any other province Six Pistoles, paid by me WILLIAM SPEAR. N.B. All masters of vessels are desired not to carry them away. +++++++++++++++++++++++ uly 6, 1749 The Pennsylvania Gazette ITEM #10801 July 6, 1749 The Pennsylvania Gazette Run away from Alexander Cruikshanks, an Irish servant man, named << Valentine Strong>> , a young fellow, about 20 years of age, well set, black complexion, and has a down look: had on when he went away, an old grey german serge coat, a flannel jacket, with the stripes round his body, old leather breeches, large felt hat, old wig, grey yarn stockings, and new shoes. Whoever takes up and secures said servant in any goal, so as his master may have him again, shall have Forty Shillings reward, and reasonable charges, paid by ALEXANDER CRUIKSHANKS. ++++++++++++++++ May 2, 1787 The Pennsylvania Gazette ITEM #73834 BOSTON, April 19. We have obtained from undoubted authority, a list of persons convicted by the supreme judicial court at their late session in the county of Berkshire, viz. Aaron Knapp of West Stockbridge, Enoch Tyler of Egremont, Joseph Williams, of New Marlborough, Nathaniel Austin of Sheffield, Peter Wilcox, jun. of Lee, Samuel Rust, of Pittsfield, received sentence of death for high treason. William Whiting of Great Barrington, Esq; for uttering divers seditious and inflammatory speeches and for making and publishing a seditious libel, was sentenced to pay a fine of 100l. suffer 7 months of imprisonment, and to be bound to good behaviour for 5 years. John Hubbard, convicted of exciting sedition, fined 100l. and bound to good behaviour for years. Daniel Sacket, and John Demming, convicted as above, fined 60l. each, bound as above. Peleg Green, Oliver Root, Enoch Harskin, << John Strong>> , convicted as above, and bound over to next term to receive sentence............. ++++++++++ Judging from the date of the above, it must be related to Shay's Rebellion.
