    3. Dear Martha, Again, thanks for the interest. 1. We have the following for William's War record: Rank: Rect. or Prvt. Regiment: 19th US Height: 5 ft 8 1/2 in Age: 31 Were Born: Durham, CT Middlesex Enlistment: When: may 10 14 (1814) Where: Harpersfield, OH Period: War Remarks: R.R. June 1814. Died Nov 30 in Lt. C. A Trimbles Co. See P.I. 26727. Among the Bounty Land correspondence is the following letter: Treasury Department []Auditor's Office May 2, 1832 The name of William A Strong a private is found a Muster Roll of Captain A Coxander (sp?) 19th Inf. to [] 12 July 1814 in the account of Pay Master [] vo G2, to have enlisted [] 10 May 1814 or the War. His name is next found on a Roll of Lt. C A. Trimble's Company from 1 August to 31 October 1814, noted Fort Erie Sick...see the account of Pay Master Young voucher 28, where he is stated to have "died 30 November 1814" Bounty Land Office [brackets are items I can't interpret] I don't think I have the "pension record" Perhaps that is something I can chase down at Archives. I have thought about William being illegitimate. One of the problems I have is that he acquired a lot of property in Durham when he was quite young. Abigail inherited some, but when he moved to Ohio, he sold off 4 or 5 properties, including that which Abigail inherited. So, he must have inherited money or property when he was around 20 years old. Also, he was sworn as a "Freeman" ca 1803/4. From the Ct. Genealogy monthly magazine, I found that one was supposed to be Christian and of good Character for this privilege. Are there any historians out there that know exactly what was required in this era for a "Freeman"? He had money and resources to build a house as soon as he arrived in Atwater. I've seen some comments that indicate that when people came from Connecticut, they built a house. When they came from Pennsylvania, they first built a barn!! As to the date when Abigail returned to Durham, CT, we think that Luzerne was b. ca 1810. According to a letter by one of Alonzo's sons, Luzerne was nursing when Abigail left! If I can pin down Luzerne's birthday more closely, that would help. Another thought that we had was that it was possible that the infant eliza died before the move to Ohio, and that the grave was re-opened to inter Abigail when she died. Now that you have pointed out the sequence of burials, this seems unlikely. Your scenario seems better, that Eliza was born after she returned to Durham. It is unlikely that she was pregnant when when left Ohio, as Luzerne was still nursing at that time. So....William and Abigail must have spent some "quality time" together when he visited Durham to persuade her to return to the frontier. According to a letter written by Alonzo, Meriah Hall's mother, who was a widow kicked Luzerne out for drunkenness and abusiveness. He later was in Ohio, and took a settlement for the bounty land in IL. They had lost track of each other by the time Alonzo released the deed. I had rejected Medad as the father we are seeking, but don't know why. Perhaps it is just because of too much faith in Dwight, that the data were accurate for a family as prominent as Medad's. Your theory is extremely interesting, an I will follow it up. It's too late tonight to dig out Dwight, but I wonder if there are any family members that would account for an inheritance for William ca 1802 or 1803 that would allow him to acquire property. Thanks a lot for the suggestions and the theories. You have given me lots to work on. Regards, Ralph
