    3. Martha, I checked the War of 1812 index for my John Strong. There was no John Strong from New Jersey listed. There, however, was a John Strong from New York who was a seaman. It makes me think that the seaman your information referred to was not the same person as my John. Be that it may, this John Strong was in the Battalion Sea Fencibles (Wooster's), New York. Now it could be that I just don't know enough history to understand how my John would have been listed in NY. Other John Strongs in NY militia were 1) John - Battalion Artillery (Dibblee's), New York - Private. See also 5th Artillary and Infantry Regiment (?Colden's), ? Militia for continuation of service. 2) John - Detached Rifleman (Moseley's), New York Militia - drummer 3) John - McMahan's Regiment New York Militia - Private 4) John - 1st Regiment (Dodge's) New York Militia - Private 5) John - 147 Regiment (Wood's) New York Militia - drummer 6) John B. - Tarrington or Farrington's Regiment, New York Militia - adjutant I also found 3 Samuel Strongs. It may or may not be my Samuel B. Strong. Since Samuel was born in 1797, it would have had to be toward the end of the War of 1812. From what I read the War of 1812 went from 1791-1815. He would have been only 18 at the end of the war. 1) Samuel - 1 Regiment (Dodd's) New Jersey Militia - Private 2) Samuel - 3 Regiment (King's ) Ohio Militia - Private 3) Samuel - 4 Regiment (Wood's ) Virginia Militia - Private I will probably write to the National Archives to check on John the seaman and the New Jersey Samuel. My library hordes the National Archive forms so that you can only get 1 form per visit, so I will have only 1 form I can do currently.
