Back on February 5th, 1997 I posted an e-mail detailing the first couple of generations of descendants of James Strong, Sr. who was born in 1709 in Ireland and died in 1779 in Chester Co., South Carolina. That e-mail was somewhat in response to an e-mail that Bob Strong posted on 2 Feb 1997 that detailed some of the descendants of Christopher Strong and his wife Jeanette Symington. A couple of months back I was asked if I could repost that e-mail. Well it has taken me longer than I hoped it would, but later is better than never, right? Anyway if it is again, sorry for the delay: ------------ Earlier there was a posting stating some of the descendants of Christopher Strong and his wife Jeannette Symington of Scotland, this posting carried it down to Letitia Strong and her husband James Strong. This posting, which follows, details the family of James Strong's father, James Strong, Sr. James Strong, Jr., b. 1760 is the son of James Strong, Sr and Elizabeth. 1-1 James Strong, Sr. was born in 1709 in Ireland and died 5 Nov 1779 in Chester Co., South Carolina. He is buried in the Harbison Burying Ground in Chester Co. James, Sr.'s will mentions his wife; Elizabeth, two sons; Robert and James, three daughters; Mary, wife of Hugh Parks, Susanna, wife of John Beale, and Agnes, wife of William Lowrey. His executors are Charles Strong and James Brown. The will is dated 1 Nov 1779 and witnessed by Ephrain Cullym, James Brown and William Moffatt. I don't have any information on James, Sr.'s wife Elizabeth with the exception of her first name. James Strong, Sr. and Elizabeth had the following children: 2 -2 Agnes Strong 2-3 Robert Strong 2-4 Mary Strong 2-5 Susanna Strong, married John Beale 2-6 James Strong, Jr. 2-2 Agnes Strong, b. 1751, d. 6 Jul 1819 in Fairfield Co., South Carolina. Her will was written on 6 may 1819 and probated on 3 Aug 1819. Her will lists her daughter; Elizabeth Lowrey, widow of William, dec'd; her sons; Joseph, James, William, Robert, John, Alexander and Thomas; and three daughters; Mary Galloway, Eliza Lowrey and Susannah Boyd. The executors of the will are her brother James Strong and her sons Alexander and Thomas Lowrey. It was witnessed by Robert Latham, Robert S. Strong and James Richey. Agnes married William Lowrey, b. 12 Jun 1747, d. 12 Sep 1804. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Their children are: 3-7 Elizabeth Lowrey, married William Lowrey 3-8 Joseph Lowrey, b. 1 Jan 1777 in York Co., South Carolina, d. 20 July 1870, married Mary Pressly on 21 Feb 1870 3-9 Rev. He is buried in the Hopewell A.R.P. Cemetery in Chester Co., SC. In his will he lists his wife, Sarah, sons John, James, Robert and William. His executors were his wife, son James and brother in law John Simonton. The will was witnessed by Hugh McQuiston, James McConnell and James Strong, Jr. He married Sarah Simonton, daughter of Robert and Margaret Simonton, b. 1760, d. 19 Apr 1831. She too is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery. Their children are: 3-18 James Strong, b. 1783 in SC, d. 17 Nov 1849 in SC. He is buried in Hopewell Cemetery. He married Jane Blaine around 1810 in SC. 3-19 Robert S. Strong, b. Apr 1786 in SC, d. 1 Nov 1832 in SC. He is buried in Hopewell Cemetery. He married Jennet McKee. 3-20 John Strong, b. 1790 in SC, d. 1867 in Tipton Co., TN. He married Martha Jaggers. 3-21 William Strong, b. 1798 in SC, d. 3 Nov 1870 in Lincoln Co., TN. He married Margaret McDill in 1816 in SC, then to Matilda McCullough in 1830 and thirdly to Mary Harper in Jan 1834. 2-3 Mary Strong, b. 1755, d. 1780/1790, married Hugh Park or Parks. He was born 1750/1760, d. 1820. He married secondly Jennet about 1788. Mary Strong and Hugh Park(s) had the following children: 3-22 James Park, born 1774/1777 3-23 daughter Park, born 1779 3-24 daughter Park, born 1781 3-25 daughter Park, born 1783 3-26 Robert Park, born 1784 in SC, died 1853 3-27 daughter Park, born 1786 in SC 2-6 James Strong, Jr, b. 1760 in Ireland, d. 5 Nov 1823 in Chester Co., SC. He is buried in the Harbison Burying Ground in Chester Co., SC. His will was written on 6 May 1823 and probated on 1 Dec 1823. In his will it mentions his wife, Letty; his sons Christopher, Charles and William James; his daughters Jennet Weir, Mary Moffatt and Martha Strong; his son-in-law John Moffatt; grandson Charles L. Moffatt; and granddaughter, Letty T.L. Moffatt. His executors where his wife, Letty and son-in-law John Weir. The will was witnessed by David Moffatt, Charles Erwin and Dorrance B. Woodburn. James Strong, Jr. married a cousin (at this time I'm not sure of the relationshop between them) Letitia Strong, daughter of Charles Strong and Janet "Jennie" Gaston, b. 1 Feb or Mar 1766 in Ireland, d. 27 Nov 1837 in Chester Co., SC (although Lowry Betts believes she died in Tennessee). Her will was written on 13 Apr 1836 and probated on 4 Feb 1838. In her will she mentions, Letty Moffatt, Mary Letty Strong (daughter of Rev. Charles Strong), Charles Moffatt, Barbara Moffatt, Jennet Weir, Molly Moffatt, Martha Strong, James Strong and John Strong. The executors were James and John Strong. It was witnessed by James Strong, Robert Strong and Peggy Strong. James Strong, Jr. and Letitia Strong had the following children: 3-28 daughter Strong, b. 1781 in SC. 3-29 Elizabeth Strong, b. Nov 1784 in Chester Co., SC, d. 15 Feb 1819 in Chester Co., SC and is buried in the Moffatt, Strong, McDill Graveyard in Chester Co., SC. She married John Moffatt on 24 Jul 1803 in Chester Co., SC. 3-30 Jennet Strong, b. 3 Apr 1786 in Chester Co., SC, d. 5 Oct 1873 in Monroe Co., IN. She is buried in the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. She married John Weir on 1 Jan 1805 in SC. 3-31 Rev. Charles Strong, b. 4 Aug 1788 in SC, d. 20 Jul 1824 in Newberry Co., SC. He married Nancy Agnes Harris on 13 Feb 1817. 3-32 Mary "Mollie" Strong, b. 20 Apr 1791 in SC, d. 12 Nov 1875 in Monroe Co., IN. She is buried in the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. She married David Moffatt in 1809 in Chester Co., SC. She is my great-great grandmother. 3-33 James Strong, b. 1796 in SC, d. 17 Jun 1803 in SC. He is buried in the Strong Cemetery. 3-34 Martha Strong, b. 1797 in SC 3-35 Christopher Strong, b. Aug 1801, d. 9 Aug 1845 in Chester Co., SC. He married Martha Harris in 1825. 3-36 William James Strong, b. 31 Aug 1804 in SC, d. 6 Nov 1856 in Tipton Co., TN.
