=================================================== Russell L. (Russ) Laird <[email protected]> deserves your thanks for serving as Co-Manager for the Strong Mail List for the month of August, despite a very busy work schedule and other family responsibilities. LaRee Nooner had been sheduled to serve as Co-Manager in Septemeber but, since she has not re-subscribed since taking a vacation trip in June, I will be serving in September, instead. Previously I have announced that I will be cancelling my subscription to the Strong Mail List effective after my current "tour of duty" as Co-Manager. Due to significant health problems, I feel obligated to devote my energies to completing the preparation of my genealogical notes for publication, probably on the World Wide Web. I will continue to be actively engaged in the maintenance of my two Strong web sites plus the Strong Roots Database in collaboration with James (Jim) Gilbert. This will leave only two Co-Managers: Theresa Land and Russell Laird. There is a critical and urgent need for a two or more subscribers to volunteer to assist as Co-Managers. The duty of the Co-Manager is primarily to manage daily administrative details, such as assisting folks to subscribe or to cancel their subscriptions, especially when they send their commands to "STRONG-L" rather than to "STRONG-L-request". This can be done in about 30 minutes per day. The total transactions (subscriptions plus cancellations) have been totaling less than two per day: about 50 per month. Most of these require no intervention by the Co-Manager. Want you please help!!! Contact the List Owner, Theresa Lang <[email protected]> if your are willing to volunteer. Russ and I are available to discuss this with you or, if you volunteer, to provide advice if and when needed. The more people who volunteer, the less often each has to serve as the Co-Manager of the Month. The current rotation schedule, revised, is posted in a footer to this message. Any assistance will be most gratefully appreciated by the current "staff" of the Strong Mail List. I feel assured that some natural discussion leaders will emerge from within the group. Any subscriber can stimulate discussions. All it takes is a little effort. In the past we have been most fortunate to have informal discussion leaders such as John Richard Mayer [now deceased] and David B. (Dave) Strong. Dave has recently returned home from several months "on the road" and will likely be a more active participant in the discussions in the coming months. If you have a topic you would like to have discussed on the Strong Mail List, present it to the group in a message and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised! If you don't post your ancestor charts and your queries, you are not likely to receive much assistance in your personal research from other Strong Mail List subscribers. If it has been over three months since you last posted your query on the Strong Mail List, post it again with some changes that might attract attention, such as a more accurate Subject line. There are about 25-30 new subscribers, including re-subscribers each month, so there are probably many subscribers who have never seen you original post. Remember, the more details you share, the more likely someone will be able to recognize a connection to your family. And by sharing, your data becomes preserved in the archived messages. "BoB T."
