Hi... Thanks for your response. Perhaps a bit of clarification is required. My personal position is that I am, as an "Irish" Strong, interested in researching first, my own genealogy, which is a problem because of the infamous Four Courts Fire which occurred in Dublin, Ireland in 1922. Secondly, I am interested in the overall concept of tracing ALL Strong(e)/Strang(e) genealogy back as far as possible. It is my personal belief that the surnames involved EVOLVED from the Breton-Norman surname "leStrange", which was carried to England from France with the troops of William the Conquerer in 1066 AD. There are vast possibilities for variations within that theme, and a few questions will point up some of them... 1) How did the name get to Scotland, where it generally devolves Strang->Strange->Strong? 2) How to explain the Strang(e)s of Denmark and Sweden... were they also derivatives from leStrange? 3) Can we document "name-change" events which show evolution of the name from leStrange -> Strange -> Stronge -> Strong? 4) How can we trace the names "back" across the oceans from America/Canada/Australia/New Zealand/Africa/India/Europe to England and France? You will note that if my interpretation is correct, Strange is the "senior" of the names Strong or Strange... BUT it is junior to leStrange! However, I am NOT inclined to engage in silly games of "one-up-manship". It doesn't matter who is senior. What does matter is that we cooperate to trace the genealogy involved. It is a massive undertaking. Just because the Strong-List was started by a "Strong" doesn't make the List or the Strong Genealogy Network devoted primarily to "Strong" vs leStrange vs Strang or Strange. It is up to the individual members of the list to set out their genealogy, their research info and theories, and to persue discussion. Frankly, I don't know anything about Lot or Marey Strange. But, I hope that you will not become discouraged by lack of input from others at the moment.... Keep bringing up your interests... sooner or later someone will hopefully make a connection which will help you and indirectly help us all. One suggestion.... Now that John R. Mayer is no longer with us, I urge all "Strange" researchers to try to exert a bit of extra effort to help steer that area of the research. Take John's "Extraneus" and build on it! It is what John would have wanted, and indeed, he gave us all a great gift in compiling and recording all of the information contained in the Extraneus series of books.... That was one of his goals, to give us all something to build on! Indirectly, the foregoing discussion underlines the need for the Strong-List and the Strong Genealogical Network. We all need to cooperate in the research. The list and network give us some structure for doing so... Let us each do our part to keep it operating smoothly! Thanks, David B.
