================================================================ THE ROOTSWEB SERVER IS BACK ON LINE THIS MORNING! POSTING OF MESSAGES TO THE STRONG MAIL LIST MAY RESUME. ================================================================ X-From_: [email protected] Sun Sep 13 21:37:14 1998 Reply-To: <[email protected]> From: "Don and Linda Clark" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Strong info Date: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 22:34:29 -0400 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Internet Mail 4.70.1161 Dear Mr. Strong: My (now deceased) Grandmother Marie Stevenson Jefferson married Alexi Alexandervitch Strong (Alex to us) in Grenwich Village in the 40's. He was a handsome full-blooded Russian. They had an interesting life together and they had a son Michael Strong. My Step-Grandfather Alex died this year and we got some family history info. that directly linked him to the late Czar of Russia. Are you all Russian Strongs? The name Strong was to them something like "Straum" or similar in Russia. Alex was very smart and cut stones (lapidary work) and loved Art and history. My Uncle Michael Strong is a dispatcher for the Long Island Railroad and his E-mail address is <[email protected]> should you want to contact him. Your website is very nice. Hope to have one one day too! Linda Carver Clark [email protected] ================================================================ TO: [email protected] (Linda Carver Clark) CC: [email protected] (David B. Strong), [email protected] (Michael Strong) FROM: [email protected] (Robert T. Strong, Jr.) SUBJECT: Alexi Alexandervitch Strong, immigrant from Russia DATE: 13 SEP 1998 Greetings, Linda! Thank you for visiting my web site and for contacting me by E-Mail and introducing your Strong ancestors. I am assuming that you visited The Strong Quest web site. I have a second web site called "The Strong-Gossage Ancestral Database", also known as "A Strong Heritage". These are the primary URLs of the two web sites: http://ro.com/~rts2/quest http://ro.com/~rts2/ancestry I am also assuming you reside in or near Beaufort County, South Carolina, on the Atlantic coast very near the Florida border. No, we are not all Russian Strongs. Actually most of the subscribers to The Strong Mail List, now approximately 170, are of British ancestry: England, Scotland, and Ireland. The largest subgroup traces their ancestry to the West County of England: Devon, Dorset and Somerset Shires (Counties). My own ancestry is not proved but is assumed to be English, also. As you browse more on The Strong Genealogy Network, you will get a better idea of the origins of the Strongs who have been in the past or are at present subscribers to the Mail List, plus some "visitors" who have never been subscribers, too. >From my own research I know of Strongs from other nations, such as Germany. Yours is the first Strong family that has come to my attention with roots in Russia. You are invited to share more details about your Strong ancestry. You can do this in one of several ways. On The Strong Quest, if you complete the Guest Register, there is a questionnaire about your Strong ancestry. That is, you can submit an Ancestor Chart in a structured fashion, providing as much detail as you wish. (The more details the better.) Or you can submit a GEDCOM to me of the descendants of your earliest Strong ancestor. I will convert that to HTML pages and post your direct ancestry on The Strong Roots Database operated jointly with James E. Gilbert, using his web site on the HiWAAY.Net server. Or you can submit an ancestor or descendancy chart as a message to The Strong Mail List, but you need to subscribe to the Mail List first. The Rootsweb List Server "crashed" yesterday, so we are temporarily out of business, but this should be resolved within a day or two. Instructions for how to subscribe are posted on The Strong Quest web site. If you attempt to subscribe and your message "bounces", try again in a couple of days. Here is the URL for The Strong Roots Database: http://fly.hiwaay.net/~jgilbert/main/srd-toc.htm When The Strong Mail List is back online, I would like to forward your message and my reply to the Mail List for distribution. There are serveral persons who subscribe to the Mail List who are researching their earliest known ancestors named Michael or Micheal Strong. David B. Strong is doing a rather scholarly "lineages directory" of Strongs, particularly those from Britain and Ireland, and I am sure he will want to add your Strong lineage to the directory on his web site. See Chapter 13 of his online manuscript at this URL: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7530 Best wishes in your Strong research. Please keep me and other subscribers to The Strong Mail List informed of your progress. These invitations are extended to your Uncle, Michael Strong, to whom I am sending a copy of this message.
