It turns out Emmett is my "cousin" and we are from the Strang family which evolved into the Strongs. My line is mainly from PA and Pennsylvania Dutch. On Emmett's tree my mother's generation is the last. I can add some information on 2 more generations for my twig and will add some more detail when I have the time. ----------deleted--------- Reference: > Emmett W Bratt > 151 Lansdowne Drive > Moon Twp, PA 15108-3027 > [email protected] > [email protected] > [email protected] > http://www.geocities.com/~ebratt > http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/r/a/Emmett-W-Bratt =========1=========2=========3=========4=========5=========6===== Hi, Kimberly: It has been a quite a long time since I studied Emmett Bratt's data. He was a long time subscriber to the Strong Mail List. For a while messages to his sprynet.com address were bouncing and, as I recall, he was automatically dropped from the Mail List as a consequence and never re-subscribed. He certainly would be welcomed back. You can find some of Emmett's data posted on the Strong Quest and perhaps also The Strong Roots Database. Numerous messages to and from Emmett Bratt on the Strong Mail List are archived on the Rootseb server and can be retrieved there. Search for "Emmett and Bratt" to retrieve all messages that contain both names. Here is the URL of the start page, on which you must enter the name of the Mail List, in this case "Strong". http://newsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl My recollection (which is far from imperfect) is that your ancestor's name was James Strong but when James married into a German family he learned to speak German and took on the German equivalent of his name: Schim Strang. He has been thought to have been of Irish origin but as yet that has not been proved with primary documentation. A review of David B. (Dave) Strong's manuscript, Chapter 13, might be helpful to you here. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7530 I would be delighted to have you submit your Ancestor Chart via the Guest Register at the Strong Quest web site or submit your GEDCOM for inclusion on the Strong Roots Database. [The invitation is open to any and all subscribers to the Strong Mail List.] The more you publicize your ancestry, the more contacts will result. [Incidentally, one of the best ways to make contacts is by setting up your own web site with your genealogy pages included, then register your web site with all the major (and some minor) search programs and genealogy registers. Free 11 megabyte web sites are available at GeoCities and at Tripod and most Internet Service Providers include one or more megabytes of web space as part of their subscription plans. Alternatively, there are several repositories for donated GEDCOMs. See the Links page of the Strong Quest for URLs.] Here is the "door" to the Guest Register at the Strong Quest web site: http://ro.com/~rts2/quest Wishing you continues success in your Strong / Strang research, "BoB T."
